Indiana Women’s Basketball beats Purdue in overtime
The Indiana Women’s Basketball Team beat Purdue 73-68 in overtime Sunday afternoon at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette before a big crowd of 8,505. The Hoosiers are without Mackenzie Holmes who suffered a knee injury and missed last Thursday’s Nebraska Game. Holmes said to the people close to her that she is “out for some time and trying to get healthy,” according to her father Lenny who provided an update on social media Saturday. Holmes suffered no ligament damage but has said there are other issues going on and that you will see her back on the court, but just can’t say when right now. The Hoosiers were also missing starting guard Nicole Cardano-Hillary Sunday after she entered health and safety protocol. Associate Head Coach Glenn Box has missed the last two games for the same reason.
The Hoosiers found a way to win with Grace Berger scoring 24 points, Aleska Gulbe adding 21 points, Ali Patberg scoring 10 points, Chloe Moore-McNeil scoring 10 points (in her first start), and Kiandra Browne scoring 8 points, as the starters played 202 of the 225 minutes and scored all 73 points. Grace Waggoner returned to play 14 minutes, producing 2 rebounds and a big steal late in the 2nd half to help the Hoosiers get to overtime. Kaitlin Peterson played 9 minutes and pulled down a rebound. Indiana was 27-63 from the field for 43%, 6-16 from three-point range for 37 %, and 13-18 from the free throw line for 72%. Indiana pulled down 42 rebounds, 13 assists, 6 blocks, 4 steals, and committed 11 turnovers.
Purdue was led by Australian guard Abbey Ellis with 19 but missed the first of two foul shots with 1 second left that could have won the game; hitting the second one to send it to overtime. Madison Layden added 15 points and Brooke Moore scored 18 off the bench. The Boilers were 28-68 from the for 38%, 3-18 from for 16%, and 13-16 from the free throw line for 81%. Purdue pulled down 40 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 blocks, 4 steals, and committed 9 turnovers. The Boilers are 11-6 overall and 2-4 in the Big Ten. Purdue led 32-27 at half. Indiana outscored the Boilers 14-9 in 3rd quarter to tie 41 all going to the 4th. Purdue led 55-47 with 3:21 left in the 4th quarter as the Hoosiers used a 13-5 run to get the game to overtime tied at 60-60. Indiana outscored Purdue 13-8 in overtime to seal the win and send all the Hoosier fans home happy that made the trip to West Lafayette.
Indiana is 14-2 overall and 6-0 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers extend its win streak in the annual Barn Burner series to six games, dating back to 2017. Win streaks were also kept intact for the Hoosiers, who won its ninth-straight game this season, 12th-straight road game and 15th consecutive Big Ten game. Indiana has not allowed a team to score 70 or more point this season. The Hoosiers will host Michigan State Wednesday Night at 7pm.
Indiana Men’s Basketball looking for first road win at Nebraska
Indiana Men’s Basketball hopes to get there first road win of the season this evening as they take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Pinnacle Bank Arena in Lincoln at 6 PM with the game on the Big Ten Network. The Hoosiers are 12-4 on the season and 3-3 in the Big Ten. Indiana is 0-4 in true road games losing at Syracuse, Wisconsin, Penn State and Iowa. Indiana beat Nebraska in the Big Ten opener 68-55 on December 4th.Trayce Jackson Davis scored 14 points, Tamar Bates scored 12, and Race Thompson added 11 points and added 11 rebounds. Alonzo Verge Jr was the only Nebraska player to score in double figures that game with 15.
Indiana lost at Iowa 83-74 Thursday night after the Hoosiers had a 48-41 lead at halftime and were outscored 42-26 in the 2nd half. Trayce Jackson-Davis averages 19.6 points along with 8.9 rebounds per game and had a team high 50 blocked shots. Race Thompson averages 10.9 points per game and has a team high 18 steals. Xavier Johnson averages 9.6 Points and team high 67 assists. Parker Stewart averages 7.7 points and Miller Kopp is averaging 7.1 points per game. Trey Galloway has been back the last three games and gives the Hoosiers a spark of the bench. Galloway has scored 24 points pulled down 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 block, and 2 steals since returning January 6 from a broken wrist he suffered on November 17 against St John’s
Nebraska is 6-12 overall and 0-7 in the Big Ten. The Huskers got blown out at Purdue 92-65 Friday night in West Lafayette. Bryce McGowens leads the team in scoring with 15.5 points, Alonzo Verge Jr is averaging 14 points and Derrick Walker Jr is at 10.1 per game. McGowens and Walker Jr both scored 8 points in the first meeting with Indiana on December 4th.
Indiana Football players Peyton Hendershot and Stephen Carr play in the Hula Bowl
Indiana University Football was represented in the Hula Bowl which is college football all-star game played Saturday Afternoon at The Bounce House which is the home stadium of the University of Central Florida Golden Knights in Orlando Florida and the game was televised by CBS. The Hula Bowl is normally played in Hawaii every year but due to renovations at Aloha Stadium the game was moved to Florida for this year and scheduled to return back to Hawaii next year. Team Kai beat Team Aina 21-20. Running Back Bryant Korback of Toledo and Linebacker Luke Masterson of Wake Forest were named the MVP’s. The Hula Bowl started in 1946 and continued till 2008, It was Restarted in 2020.
Carr a Running Back Played for Team Aina while Hendershot Tight End played for played for Team Kai. Aina and Kai are the mean Land and Sea in Hawaiian. Carr played one season at Indiana after transferring from USC. Carr played in 9 games rushing for 600 yards and one touchdown and caught one touchdown pass. Hendershot was the all-time leader for a tight end in receptions and yards, he fell one touchdown short of Ted Bosler’s record of touchdowns finishing with 14. Offensive Guard Brayden Patton who played for Edgewood HS in Ellettsville and Northern Illinois played for Team Kai. Patton played in 48 games for the Huskies and played in 3 Bowl Games in his carrer. Kicker Jonathan Doerer, Linebacker Drew White, Defensive Tackle Drew Hinish, and Offensive Guard Kain Madden all from Norte Dame all played for Team Kai.
Indianapolis Colts Announce 2022 Opponents
With the 2021 NFL regular season in the books, The NFL announced the matchups for the 2022 regular season. The Indianapolis Colts who finished second in the AFC South this season will face the runners-up in the AFC North, AFC East and NFC North. The Colts will host the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lucas Oil Stadium and travel for road games against the New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings.
The Colts are already scheduled to face the AFC West and NFC East in 2022. The Colts will host the following opponents at Lucas Oil Stadium which include the Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Pittsburgh Steelers, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Chargers, Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Football Team
The Colts will play the following opponents on the road which include the Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and the Minnesota Vikings as The NFL will announce its 2022 schedule this spring with dates and times.
