Indiana Men’s Basketball wins at Nebraska
Indiana Men’s Basketball won at Nebraska 78-71 Monday evening for the Hoosiers first true road win of the season. Indiana is 13-4 overall and 4-3 in the Big Ten. Indiana was 0-4 coming into the game in true road contest.The win mark the first true road victory of the season for the Hoosiers and first overall since toppling No. 4/4 Iowa (81-69) on Jan. 21, 2021. Both teams wore specially designed shooting shirts designed to commemorate the contributions of the esteemed civil rights leader, Martin Luther King Jr.
Trayce Jackson-Davis led the Hoosiers with 23 points and 12 rebounds for his 30th career double-double in Indiana uniform. Race Thompson added 12 points and Jordan Geronimo scored 10 points on 4-4 shooting and 7 rebounds off the bench. The Hoosiers were 27-50 from the field for 54 percent, 4-13 from three-point range for 30 percent and 20-28 for 71 percent. The Hoosiers pulled down 30 rebounds, 10 assists, 7 steals, 2 blocks and committed 14 turnovers.
Nebraska 6-13 and 0-8 in the Big Ten was led by Bryce McGowens with 20 points and Alonzo Verge added 19 points. Nebraska was 24-51 from the field for 47%, 6-17 from three-point range for 35% and 17-21 for 81%. Nebraska pulled down 24 rebounds,11 assists, 8 steals, and 13 turnovers. The Hoosiers led 45-39 at halftime but cornhuskers made a second half run with the Hoosiers outscoring the Huskers 33-32.
The Hoosiers will be back in action Thursday night when they host archrival Purdue at 7 PM on Fox Sports 1. The 4th ranked Boilermakers won at Illinois Monday afternoon 96-88 in 2 overtimes and will come into Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall with a 15-4 overall record and 4-2 conference record.
Indiana-Michigan State Women’s Basketball Game Postponed
Due to COVID-19 protocols within the Indiana program, the game between Indiana and Michigan State for tomorrow night has been postponed. Both programs will actively work with the Big Ten Conference to find a rescheduled date to play the game. Per the amended Big Ten Conference 2021-22 Forfeiture Guidelines, this game will be postponed, and the Conference office will coordinate the rescheduling process with both schools. If the game is not able to be rescheduled, it would count as a “no contest” for both teams.
This is the second Big Ten Conference Game that Indiana has postponed. There game at Rutgers December 30th was postponed because of COVID concerns within Rutgers program and has not been rescheduled. The Hoosiers game with Wright State December 21st was canceled due to COVID concerns within the Wright State program.
Michigan State Beats Indiana Wrestling 17-15
In a back-and-forth dual match, Indiana Wrestling fell just short to Michigan State on Monday afternoon, losing 17-15 in the home opener at Wilkinson Hall. The Hoosiers’ record now stands at 2-3 overall and 0-3 in the Big Ten. After being down 2-0 to start, graduate student and No. 18 Brock Hudkins (133) came back to beat No. 11 Rayvon Foley by a 5-3 decision and continues his undefeated start to the season, owning an 8-0 record. Junior Cayden Rooks (141) earned his second straight victory, winning in a 3-1 decision over Jordan Hamdan for his second consecutive win gives him an 11-4 record for the year. Redshirt junior Graham Rooks (149) snapped a three-match losing streak, easily taking care of Peyton Omania in an 8-4 win by decision and is back over .500 for the season with an 8-7 individual record now. In perhaps the most exciting dual of the night, junior Nick South (174) battled to the very end with Nate Jimenez, escaping with a 2-1 win by decision in the second period of sudden victory South’s bout marked his sixth win of the season and his first appearance since December 11. Redshirt sophomore Donnell Washington held strong against No. 29 Layne Malcezewski, earning an 8-5 win by decision as Washington got back on track, snapping a two-match losing streak, and improved his record to 11-2 on the season.
The Hoosiers and Spartans split the ten bouts with both squads winning five each and after the conclusion of the match, three exhibition matches were held. Indiana Wrestling will host Maryland this Friday at 7:00pm in Wilkinson Hall.
Indiana Pacers Lose to Los Angeles Clippers Monday Afternoon
The Indiana Pacers lost to the Los Angeles Clippers 139-133 Monday Afternoon in Los Angeles. The Pacers are 15-29 on the season and 3-17 on the road. The Blue and Gold have lost 4 in row and 9 of the last 10 games. Caris LeVert scored 26 and Chris Duarte added 24 points Indiana had 7 players in double figures with Domas Sabonis getting a double-double off 19 points and 11 rebounds.
The Los Angeles Clippers are 22-23 on the season and 15-12 at home. Nicolas Batum scored 32 points and Reggie Jackson added 26 points. The Clippers starting five all scored in double figures. The Pacers will stay in Los Angeles to face the Lakers Tomorrow evening at 10:30pm.
