Early morning senior center fire at Crowne Point Indianapolis
The Indianapolis Fire Department battled a fire at a senior living facility early this morning. Crown Pointe Indianapolis, a 72-room residential nursing facility in the 7300 block of E. 16th St, was the site of the blaze which is believed to have started in one room and traveled through the facility’s attic. 45 residents had to be evacuated just past midnight, and were delivered to an undisclosed location by IndyGo buses. There were no reports of injuries caused by the event.

Federal Government makes Covid home test kits available
A website for a new Federal effort to distribute Covid-19 rapid tests by mail across will launch for requests on January 19th. The test kits are limited to four rapid tests per residential household. Households will be able to request tests at COVIDTests.gov beginning tomorrow, January 19, and should be shipped within 7-12 days of being ordered.
Through an emergency use authorization by the FDA, the Federal Government has purchased 500 million at-home rapid tests, and has an additional 420 million tests already under contract. Half a billion tests will be available for order on January 19th, at no cost to citizens, other than taxes, of course. The total taxpayer cost of the kits $4 Billion. Shipping and Administrative costs are unknown at this time.
IU Cinema spring season includes cult classics, US film premiere
From cult classic gems to contemporary awards buzz films to the U.S. premiere of a new release, IU Cinema’s spring schedule includes mesmerizing and absorbing cinematic experiences combined with select virtual screenings for those hunkering down at home.
Spring programming kicked off Jan. 13 with the five-film International Art House Series, with stories from Thailand, Iceland and several points — and time periods — in between. The series includes indie superstar studio A24’s newest festival hit “Lamb” and the powerhouse combination of Joel Coen, Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand in “The Tragedy of Macbeth.”
For those who want that “midnight movie” experience without the lack of sleep, the genre-pushing, mind-bending, shape-shifting Not-Quite Midnights series — at 10 p.m. Fridays, Jan. 14 to Feb. 11 — will feature such films as feminist cult classic “Jennifer’s Body” and contemporary awards buzz feature “Titane.”
