Indiana Men’s Basketball beats 4th Ranked Purdue 68-65
Indiana Men’s Basketball beat 4th ranked Purdue 68-65 inside a sold-out Simon Skjodt Aseembly Hall Thursday Night. Lafayette Native Rob Phinisee led the Hoosiers with 20 points off the bench. Phinisee had 17 in the first half and his only points in the second half came on a three pointer with 17 seconds left to put the Hoosiers up 66-65. Trayce Jackson-Davis hit two free throws with 5 seconds left to seal the win. Jaden Ivey missed a three pointer at the buzzer as the students stormed the court. IU earned its first victory over a top five team since defeating Iowa, 81-69, inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena last season on January 21, 2021. It is the first top five victory for the Hoosiers inside Assembly Hall since defeating No. 3 North Carolina, 76-67, on November 30, 2016.
 
After Purdue raced out to a 16-8 lead at the 13:35 mark of the first half, Indiana closed the half on a 29-12 run to take a 37-28 lead into the locker room. Indiana held the lead until a Boilermaker layup with 1:08 to play in the game provided just the second lead change of the game. Phinisee’s three was the final lead change of the game. Indiana is 14-4 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten. Purdue drops to 15-3 and 4-3 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers end a nine-game losing streak against the Boilers. It’s the first win since 2016 for Hoosiers in the series.

Xavier Johnson added 18 points , and Race Thompson had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Trayce Jackson-Davis had 4 points and 1 rebound in just 12 minutes of action after picking up 2 quick fouls and sitting most of the first half, he also had 2 more fouls in the second half and was not able to see a lot of time after halftime. Indiana’s bench stepped up with 35 points, 20 coming from Phinisee. Trey Galloway added 8 points, Michael Durr 4 points, and Jordan Geronimo 3 points. The Hoosiers were 24-46 from the field for 43%, 6-20 from three-point range for 30%, and 14-24 from the free throw line for 58%. Indiana pulled down 30 rebounds, 9 steals, 6 assists, 4 blocks and committed a season low 3 turnovers.

Purdue was led by Jaden Ivey with 21 points, Mason Gillis added 13 points, and 7-4 Zach Edey had 12 points and 9 rebounds. Purdue was 25-54 from the field for 46%, 8-23 from three-point range for 34%, and 7-17 from the free throw line for 41%. Purdue pulled down 39 rebounds,12 assists, 2 blocks,12 turnovers, and did not have a steal or a fastbreak point in the game.

Indiana Hosts Michigan Sunday at 3:30pm on CBS. Michigan is 8-7 overall and 2-3 in the Big Ten. Michigan beat Maryland 83-64 at home Tuesday Night. The Wolverines are led by Hunter Dickinson a seven-footer averaging 14.1 points per game. Isaiah Livers averages 13.1 points per game, and Franz Wagner who averages 12.5. Wagner’s brother Mortiz played at Michigan from 2016-2018. Michigan is coached by Juwan Howard who was part of the Fab Five at Michigan from 1991-94 and played in 2 National Championship games in 1992 and 1993 along with Chris Weber, Jalen Rose Ray Jackson and Jimmy King. Howard played in the NBA from 1994-2013 with 8 different teams. He is 50-24 in his 3rd season at his alma mater.

Indiana Women’s Basketball Player Mackenzie Holmes has successful knee surgery
Indiana Women’s Basketball Junior Mackenzie Holmes has undergone a knee procedure and will begin rehab immediately the school announced Thursday. Holmes is the team leading scorer at 17.9 Points and rebounder at 8.2 per game. Holmes has missed the last two games with Nebraska on January 13 and at Purdue January 16 in which the Hoosiers won both games. Indiana has both its scheduled games this week postponed due to COVID-19 Protocols within its program.   The Hoosiers were to host Michigan State Wednesday and travel to Iowa Sunday. 

Indiana is ranked 6th in Associated Press and 5th in the coaches Polls this week. The Hoosiers are 14-2 overall and 6-0 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers advance to the Elite 8 last season for the first time in school history losing to Arizona and Holmes led the team in scoring and rebounding. Indiana is scheduled to Host Illinois Thursday January 27. Indiana has not said exactly what Holmes’s injury is or how long she will be out for.

Indiana Women’s Basketball Players Ali Patberg and Grace Berger named to 2022 WBCA “So you want to be a coach” class
Indiana guards Grace Berger and Ali Patberg have been selected to the 2022 ‘So You Want to Be a Coach” class. The program sponsored by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association in partnership within partnership with We COACH, announced the 19th class in the program’s history on Thursday. Each student-athlete will participate in the two-day workshop on March 31 and April 1 during the WBCA Convention in Minneapolis. The “So” program increases the understanding and application of skills necessary to secure coaching positions in women’s basketball, increases the understanding and awareness of competencies necessary for success in coaching, introduces female basketball players to coaches and administrators, and raises awareness of the existing talent pool of female basketball players who have a passion and interest in coaching the game of women’s basketball.
                                                        
The duo is currently the team’s second and third leading scorers, respectively, and have led Indiana to a 14-2 overall record and perfect 6-0 start in Big Ten Play. Berger averages 15.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists per game and shoots 44.8 percent from the floor. She was named a preseason All-Big Ten selection, Cheryl Miller preseason watch list, Wade Trophy Watch preseason watch list and Senior CLASS Award Top 30 candidate. Patberg averages 12.3 points, 3.9 assists and a +2.3 assist-to-turnover ratio while also shooting 44.5% from the floor. She is a Nancy Lieberman preseason watch list candidate, Wade Trophy preseason watch list, and Senior CLASS Award Top 30 candidate.
 

Bloomington Speedway Announces 2022 Racing Schedule
The Bloomington Speedway announced the 2022 Racing Schedule. The Season kicks off April 15th and will end on September 9th. All 18 dates are on Friday Nights. The Speedway opened in 1923 and the Midwest fastest ¼ mile dirt oval and is located at 5185 S. Fairfax Road Bloomington, Indiana 47401.
