Rebecca Carl named interim vice president for communications and marketing at Indiana University
Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie has named Rebecca Carl interim vice president for communications and marketing, after the resignation of Karen Ferguson Fuso., Before joining the Office of the Vice President for Communications and Marketing, she served IU as associate vice president for government relations and economic engagement. Carl will hold the role until McRobbie’s successor is named and able to identify a permanent replacement. She assumes the helm at a time of continued critical work for the division, which is overseeing communications and logistics for the university’s COVID-19 response, as well as supporting multiple campuses and schools in their recruitment efforts.
Bartholomew County Jail has Covid outbreak
An outbreak of Covid-19 at the Bartholomew County Jail has forced the facility into lockdown until the end of the month. Almost half of the inmates had tested positively for the virus. Attorneys will not be allowed into the jail; meetings between clients and attorneys will now be conducted over video or audio calls. Inmates with fewer than 30 days left on their sentences will be released early if they are not deemed to be a threat to the public. The decision to release an inmate early rests with the prosecutor’s office, judges, or the probation office.
Middle Way House partners with IU with arts program
The Bloomington-based Middle Way House, serving survivors of domestic violence, is piloting a new art-based club program for preschool and elementary students, called Look Clubs. The program is offered in a partnership with the Indiana University Eskenazi Museum of Art. Each month, club members participate in an age-appropriate, unique art activity based on a different piece from the museum’s collection. The Eskenazi Museum also offers two other levels of the clubs: high school and teacher. Each is open to any interested student or teacher across Indiana.
