Demolition of Player’s Pub Building still in question

Bloomington’s City Council might be having second thoughts regarding the possibility of the property downtown, which most recently housed the player’s Pub from become designated a historic landmark. This past week, the Council were presented information that Boxman’s Restaurant, which was housed in part of that property, possibly operated with questionable practices by today’s standards, by not allowing persons of color to patronize the business. In 2020, a developer applied for a permit to demolish the building and was met with pleas to restore and preserve the integrity of the structure for its local historical importance. The final vote on Council’s approval or denial to award the property historic designation will occur on February 3rd.

Suspect in mass murder arrested

Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears announced six murder charges will be filed against the suspect of the mass murder which occurred a week ago on Adams Street in Indianapolis. The suspect has been identified as 17-year old Raymond Childs, III, and he will be tried as an adult. Childs is accused of killing 5 family members as well as the unborn child of his brother’s girlfriend, after an argument ensued reportedly after his father punished him for leaving the house without permission. One sibling survived the shooting and has identified his brother as the killer.

Ohio State defeats the Lady Hoosiers 78-70 at Assembly Hall

A 7-point run to start off the game forced Ohio State to call an early time out to regroup in order to find a way to deal handle the energy the Lady Hoosiers brought to start off the game. The Buckeyes applied the full court press to slow down IU, and that coupled with quick hands forcing turnovers, closed the gap to just one point by halftime. Momentum in the game swung like a pendulum, but difficulty rebounding perimeter shots, and finding the basket in the fourth quarter found the 14th nationally ranked Buckeyes too much for IU to handle last night, as the Hoosiers fall to 9-4 on the season. Grace Berger led IU with 26 points and 8 rebounds in the losing effort. Next up, Indiana will host Michigan State on Sunday afternoon.
