Mayor Hamilton to present State of the City Address
Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton presents his seventh annual State of the City address to the community at the Buskirk Chumley Theater on Thursday, February 24th, at 7pm. All are invited to attend the free event, although the venue is still insisting upon all of those attending live, to show evidence of a Covid vaccination or a “a dated COVID-19 test (generally referred to as a “receipt”) that shows a negative test result, the name of the patron, and the name of the testing facility.
In addition to the remarks of Mayor Hamilton, the work of local artists will be showcased, including live music, poetry readings, and a video presentation of community portraits. The event will be convened and adjourned by the Bloomington Common Council, for which it serves as an official meeting. Simultaneous interpretation in American Sign Language will be provided by South Central Indiana Interpreting.
If you choose not to attend in person, you can attend over Zoom (Passcode 519878), or live stream on the City of Bloomington Facebook page or YouTube Channel, where the video presentation will be archived for future viewing. Community Access TV Services (CATS) will also broadcast the program. Registration is not required to attend this event.

Rough Night for IU Basketball, both Men’s and Women’s teams lose
Indiana Men’s Basketball lost at Ohio State 80-69 in overtime Monday Night in Columbus. The Hoosiers have lost 5 in a row falling to 16-10 overall and 7-9 in the Big Ten. Ohio State led 33-28 at half. Indiana outscored the Buckeyes 35-30 in the 2nd half to send the game to overtime, tied at 63. Ohio State controlled the extra session outscoring the Hoosiers 17-6.
For the 2nd time in 3 days Indiana Women’s Basketball came up short losing at Iowa 88-82, Monday night in Iowa City Iowa. The Hoosiers lost 96-91 Saturday afternoon at home to the Hawkeyes. Grace Berger led the Hoosiers with 22 Points, Nicole Cardano-Hillary added 15 points, Mackenzie Holmes added 13 points. Ali Patberg and Chloe Moore McNeil finished with 11 points each. Aleska Gulbe scored 6 points, Kiandra Browne scored 4 points and Grace Waggoner did not score in 2 minutes of action. Iowa improves to 18-7 overall and 12-4 in the Big Ten. Monika Czinano had 31 points and 10 rebounds to led the Hawkeyes. Caitlin Clark had 28 points, 8 rebounds, and 8 assists. McKenna Warnock added 16 points. Indiana falls to 19-6 on the season and 11-4 in the Big Ten and will close out the regular season Friday night at Maryland
Owen County resident promoted to Sergeant

Ian Portteus has been promoted to the rank of Indiana State Police Sergeant. Sergeant Portteus, an Owen County native, will serve as a supervisor for the Bloomington District. Graduating from the 72nd Indiana State Police Recruit Academy in 2012, he was assigned to the Putnamville District where he worked primarily Clay, Putnam, and Vigo Counties. Portteus has been a K-9 Handler since 2015 with his partner Czar, an 8-year-old German Shepherd. He has also served as a certified DRE Officer (Drug Recognition Expert), FTO (Field Training Officer), TIP Team Member (Tactical Intervention Platoon), and ARIDE Instructor (Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement). In 2021, Sergeant Portteus transferred to the Bloomington Post where he has been assigned to the District ACES (Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Section) until his promotion. In his new role,
Sergeant Portteus will mentor and supervise a squad of Troopers in the Bloomington District.
