Bloomington North wins Girls Gymnastics Sectional
Bloomington North scored 108.175 points to take home the Girls Gymnastics Sectional Title held last Saturday Afternoon at Columbus East High School. Columbus North finished 2nd with 107.975 points and Roncalli finished 3rd with 105.275 will be three teams advancing to the Regional hosted by Franklin Central this Friday at the Gymnastics Company in Indianapolis. Bloomington South finished 6th with 101.975 points and Edgewood 10th with 95.650 points. It’s the Cougars first Sectional Championship since 1984.
Bloomington North Freshman Sofia Garcia won the Beam with a score 9.525, Columbus North Senior Emily Moore won the Vault, Bars, Floor and the All -Around events. Junior Hope Taylor of Bloomington North Finished 3rd while Garcia and Sophomore Jessica Floyd tied for 6th in the Floor
Bloomington South Sophomores Madeline Kawanishi and Amelie Parrish finished 4th and 6th in the Beam and will advance to regional as individuals. Sophomore Amelia Langley finished 5th in the floor
Bloomington North and South finish top 12 at Boys Swimming State Finals
Bloomington North scored 49th points and Bloomington South scored 47 points to take home 11th and 12th place Last Saturday Afternoon in the IHSAA Boys State Swimming Finals held at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis. Carmel won the State Championship scoring 381 points and taking home its 8th straight state title and 22nd overall.
Bloomington South Freshman David Kovacs finished 6th in the 100-yard Backstroke and 10th in the 200-yard Individual Medley. Freshman Lukas Paegle finished 8th in the 100-yard butterfly and 22nd in the 50-yard Freestyle. Senior Judah Thompson finished 15th in the 200 Yard Freestyle and 29th in the 500 Yard, 11th in the 200-yard Medley Relay, and 16th in the 400 Freestyle Relay.
Bloomington North finished 7th in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay and 10th in the 200 Freestyle Relay. Freshman Jay Stewart finished 11th in the 100 Yard Backstroke and 12th in the 100-yard Butterfly. Junior Max Miller finished 18th in the 1 Meter Diving. Senior Blake Hatcher 23rd in the 200-yard freestyle and the Cougars finished 20th in the 200-yard Medley Relay
Four Girls Basketball State Champions crowned at Gainbridge Fieldhouse
Four Girls Basketball State Champions were crowned last Saturday in the 47th annual Indiana High School Athletic Association State Finals held at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
In Class 1A Tecumseh beat Lafayette Central Catholic 60-53. The Game was tied 41-41 at the end of the 3rd quarter when junior Karysn Flowers hit a three pointer to spark an 11-0 run and give Tecumseh its first ever girls basketball state championship. Tecumseh Head Coach Adam Luebbehusen won the 1999 Class 1A state championship as player when Tecumseh beat Lafayette Central Catholic. Tecumseh was led in scoring by Sophomore Jenna Donahoo with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Kaybree Oxley added 19 points and 11 rebounds as the Braves finish the season at 21-8. Lafayette Central Catholic who was 3-0 in State Championship Games coming into Saturday ends the year at 24-5 and was led in scoring by Carlee Barrett with 17 points. Kindell Rider and Caitlin Dineen added 14 points apiece.
In Class 2A Forest Park beat Frankton 52-44. Forest Park wins its first state championship and was led by Junior Amber Tretter who finished with 22 points, 17 rebounds and 6 blocks. The Rangers were 18-22 from the free throw line for 81%. Forest Park ends the year with a 26-3 record. Frankton finishes 23-6 and was led in scoring with 15 points from Amaya Collins and 9 points from Lauryn Bates.
In Class 3A South Bend Washington dominated Silver Creek 93-35 in a rematch of last years state championship game that Silver Creek won 54-48. It is the second state title for South Bend Washington with the Panthers winning it all in 2007 led by former Notre Dame and WNBA Star Skylar Diggins. South Bend Washington led 16-10 in the first quarter win freshman Monique Mitchell hit a three pointer at the end first quarter to put the Panthers up 19-10. South Bend Washington used a 27-0 run before Silver Creek scored with 2 minutes to go before halftime. South Bend Washington led 51-16 at halftime and 72-22 after three quarters. South Bend Washington 27-3 was led by Senior Mila Reynolds with 21 Points, her younger sister Kira who is a freshman scored 17 points and pulled down 24 rebounds. Rashunda Jones scored 17 points and Monique Mitchell added 14 points. Silver Creek 26-3 was led in scoring by Kynidi Mason Striverson with 10 Points.
In Class 4A Noblesville beat Franklin 76-52 to win its second state championship with the first coming in 1987. Noblesville who has no seniors on the roster was led in scoring by Junior Ashlynn Shade with 31 points and who is committed to the University of Connecticut. The game was tied 11-11 after the first quarter. Noblesville scored 7 straight points and never trailed. The Millers outscored the Grizzly Cubs 29-15 in the second quarter going 10-12 from the field and 7-8 from the free throw line to lead 47-28 at halftime. Franklin trailed by 10 points with 7:39 left in the game 53-43 but the Millers closed the game on a 23-9 run. Ava Shoemaker and Regan Wilson scored 12 points apiece for Noblesville. Ashlyn Traylor led Franklin 28-2 in scoring with 18 points.
Boys Basketball Sectionals kick off tonight
The Road to The State Finals kicks off tonight for all High School Boys Basketball teams in the state of Indiana with sectional action. In Class 4A at Martinsville Columbus East 7-14 takes on Bloomington North 19-3 at 6 pm followed by Bloomington South 17-7 taking on host school Martinsville 7-16 at 7:30pm. The game one winner takes on Columbus North 16-7 Friday at 6 pm while the game two winner takes on East Central 15-7 at 7:30 pm Friday. Bloomington North comes in with 12 game winning streak and looking for its first sectional title since 2014. Bloomington South has won the last 7 sectionals dating back to 2015.
In Class 3A at Edgewood the host Mustangs 11-13 take on South Vermillion 12-12 tonight at 7 pm with the winner facing Brownstown Central 20-3 on Friday Night at 6 pm. West Vigo 13-11 takes on Northview 15-9 tomorrow night at 6 pm followed by Owen Valley 8-12 taking on Brown County 2-19 at 7:30pm with the winners facing off in the second semifinal at 7:30pm Friday night.
In Class 1A at White River Valley Lighthouse Christian 15-8 takes on North Central Farmersburg 13-8 tomorrow at 7:30 pm in the second game after White River Valley 5-16 takes on 9-13 Clay City at 6pm with the winners facing off on Friday night in the second semifinal at 7:30 pm. Bloomfield 17-6 takes on Shakamak 14-9 this evening at 7pm, with the winner taking on Eminence 0-19 in the first semifinal at 6pm Friday.
