UWBB to take on Rutgers in their 2022 Big Ten Tournament debut
Indiana University Women’s Basketball will kick off their Big Ten Tournament run this afternoon. The #14 Hoosiers (19-7, 11-5) are the 5th seed in the conference tournament, and will play Rutgers (11-19, 3-14) this afternoon at 2pm at Ganibridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Rutgers defeated Penn State yesterday in the opening round, to advance in the single elimination tournament. The Hoosiers are coming off of a rough streak, losing 4 of the last 5 games which they had to play in a ten day stretch due to the shuffling of games that had previously been postponed. The winner of this game will take on 4th seed Maryland (21-7, 12-4) tomorrow afternoon.
Indiana University Men lose to Rutgers on Ron Harper, Jr. buzzer-beater
Did Ron Harper and Rutgers (17-12, 11-8) just burst Indiana’s bubble? Rutgers came from behind with a 21-11 run in the final 9 minutes to defeat the Hoosiers in front of their home crowd, capped off by a 3-pointer by Ron Harper, Jr with 2 seconds left on the clock. The final score was 66-63, as the Hoosiers fall to 18-11, and 9-10 in the conference. Trayce Jackson-Davis led the Hoosiers with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Harper, Jr. led the Scarlett Knights with 19 points and 6 rebounds.
This loss makes it extremely difficult for IU, who has been considered a bubble team since their February skid, to be considered for selection to the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. Indiana will most likely need to beat #8 Purdue on Saturday afternoon, in order to keep their post season hopes alive.
Pacers, led by Brogdon, come from behind to beat Magic
Malcolm Brogdon came back from his rehabilitation of an Achilles injury to ignite the Indianapolis Pacers to a 122-114 road victory on Thursday evening against the Orlando Magic. Brogdon, who has missed 34 games this season due to injury, scored 31 points, while amassing 8 assists and 11 rebounds, and 2 steals in 41 minutes of play. The Pacers, who are now 22-42, are struggling this season, finding themselves in 7 games behind Atlanta, who currently holds the last playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Next up, the Pacers will travel to Detroit to take on the Pistons Friday at 7pm.
