Clerk of the Brown County Circuit Court Charged with Official Misconduct, Deception, and Theft
Brown County Clerk, 49 year-old Kathy L. Smith, has been arrested by Indiana State Police after a lengthy investigation into alleged misconduct. The Indiana Organized Crime and Corruption Section of the ISP have charged Smith with Official Misconduct of a Public Servant, Deception, and Theft. The investigation began when Smith failed to provide receipts for a voucher that she submitted to the Auditor in May and June of 2020 after utilizing a County issued credit card. When the receipts were obtained there were questionable purchases made that did not appear to be for use in the Clerks office. Further investigation revealed that Smith allegedly made several other inappropriate purchases for a personal advantage that failed to have any benefit to Brown County Government or its citizens. The warrant was issued by Brown County Circuit Court on March 4th, after a complete review of the investigation. Smith surrendered herself and was held on a $1,000 bond.
Ivey Named a Finalist for Wooden Award
The Los Angeles Athletic Club has announced the Purdue sophomore Jaden Ivey has been selected as one of 15 finalists for the Wooden Award given to the nation’s top player. Ivey is joined by four other Big Ten players (Illinois’ Kofi Cockburn, Wisconsin’s Johnny Davis, Ohio State’s E.J. Liddell, and Iowa’s Keegan Murray) and other standouts such as Duke’s Paulo Banchero, Kansas’ Ochai Agbaji, Gonzaga’s Chet Holmgren, and Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe.
Ivey has led the Boilermakers to a 25-6 record and a No. 8 national ranking heading into this week’s Big Ten Tournament. The 6-foot, 4-inch South Bend, Indiana, native is averaging 17.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game while also adding 30 steals and 17 blocked shots. He is just one of three players nationally to reach those marks, being the only high-major player on the list. He needs just 84 points, eight rebounds and nine assists to become the second player in school history to have 600 points, 150 rebounds and 100 assists in a season (Caleb Swanigan – 2017).
Ivey has scored in double-figures in 28 of his 30 games played (missed one game with an injury) and has a team-best 11 games of 20 or more points, including double-doubles against North Carolina (22 points, 10 rebounds) and Minnesota (21 points, 10 rebounds).
