Indiana Baseball Host Cincinnati
Indiana Baseball hosts the University of Cincinnati at 4 pm this afternoon at Bart Kaufman Field. The Hoosiers are 4-6 on the season after taking two out three in a series at Missouri State over the weekend. Indiana lost on Friday 9-7 and came back to win 12-3 on Saturday along with a 10-4 victory on Sunday. This is just the second home game for the Hoosiers after beating Miami Ohio 15-2 on March 1. Indiana is scheduled to host Purdue Fort-Wayne tomorrow at 4 pm before they head south to face the Troy Trojans in Alabama this weekend.
Cincinnati is 6-4 on the season and took three out of four against Northwestern last Friday and Saturday at Home. The Bearcats won Game 1 5-4 Friday before falling in Game 2 10-8. The Bearcats took the doubleheader on Saturday, 4-2 and 16-5. Cincinnati 2-3 on the road this season.
Six Indiana University Divers Qualify for NCAA Championships
Indiana men’s and women’s diving earned six bids to Atlanta during the opening day of the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships inside Donald B. Canham Natatorium in Ann Arbor Michigan Monday. IU had the top two finishers in both the men’s 3-meter and women’s 1-meter dive competitions to set the tone for the three-day event. Two more divers placed within the auto-qualifier cutline and secured trips to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships later this month in Atlanta.
In the Men’s 3 Meter with nine qualification spots up for grabs, the Hoosier men left no doubt as all three competitors placed within the top four. Freshmen Carson Tyler and Quinn Henninger earned their first-career NCAA Championship bids, placing first and second, respectively, in the first event of the week. Tyler carded scores of 70 or better for four of his final six dives, including an 87.50 for a 307C.
Henninger was consistent Monday, scoring at least 60 points for all 12 of his dives. He finished with a flourish, tallying 84 points with a 5337D, his last dive of the day. Reigning NCAA 3-Meter Champion Andrew Capobianco scored 811.85 points to finish well above the cutline in fourth. The senior was especially sharp in the final, scoring 70 points in five of his six dives.
In the Women’s 1 Meter Senior Kristen Hayden and sophomore Anne Fowler cruised to a one-two finish in the 1-meter as the duo combined to score at least 45 points in 23 of 24 dives. Sophomore Tarrin Gilliand survived the cutline and sat 17th after the preliminary six dives. She made up significant ground in the final, scoring 50 points for three of her dives to place eighth and nab one of nine qualifying bids. The diving squad will be back in action Today for the second day of competition at the NCAA Zone C Championships. The women will contest the 3-meter event, while the men will take on the 1-meter.
Indiana Men’s Golf Tied For 7th in South Carolina
Indiana Men’s Golf is tied for 7th place with Memphis after Day one of the Colleton River Collegiate in Bluffton South Carolina. Indiana finished with a 295 in round one and a 286 in round two for a total score of 581 which five over par. Georgia Southern leads the 15-team tournament with a score of 560 which is 16 under par followed by Kansas State, Michigan State, South Florida, Ohio State and Cincinnati. Albin Bergstrom of South Florida is the individual leader with a score of 134 which is good for 10 under par and two strokes ahead of Luke O’Neill of Kansas State. Drew Salyers of Indiana is tied for 6th place with a total score of 141 which is seven strokes back of the leader. The final two rounds will kick off this morning at 7:45am.
Indiana Men’s Tennis Falls to Auburn 7-0
Indiana Men’s Tennis fell to Auburn 7-0 Monday afternoon in Auburn Alabama. The Tigers lead the all-time series with the Hoosiers 4-2 with the Tigers winning the last three meetings. This was the first meeting between the two teams since 1992. Indiana last beat Tigers March 5, 1988, in Bloomington, 8-1. The Hoosiers are 5-6 on the season and are off until March 16th when the travel to South Florida for a matchup with the Bulls, in Tampa.
