Ellettsville Man Arrested on Child Pornography, Bestiality, and Drug Charges
41 year-old Jonathan P. Campbell of Ellettsville was arrested by the Indiana State Police Bloomington District and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) on charges of Child Pornography, and Bestiality, along with Drug Charges. Campbell has been under investigation by ISP after a tip was received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). He has been charged with Four Counts of Possession of Child Pornography – Under 12 Years of Age, One Count of Bestiality, One Count of Possession of a Narcotic (Psilocybin), One Count Possession of Marijuana, and One Count Possession of Paraphernalia.

***Criminal Defendants are presumed innocent until and unless convicted in a court of law.

Indianbapolis Indians announce television schedule for 2022 season
The Indianapolis Indians today announced their 2022 broadcast schedule with Circle City Broadcasting, with a total of 35 telecasts scheduled on WISH-TV and MyINDY-TV 23. The first telecast is set for Tuesday, April 5 on MyINDY-TV 23 as the Indians host the Omaha Storm Chasers in the club’s season opener.

 “The Indianapolis Indians are eager to showcase Indians baseball and Victory Field to Central Indiana households on WISH-TV and MyINDY-TV 23 this season,” said Randy Lewandowski, Indians President and General Manager. “Circle City Broadcasting serves more than one million households. With 35 telecasts, we are able to bring the excitement of Indians baseball directly into the homes of our great fans on a regular basis.”

Howard Kellman, who has broadcast nearly 6,500 Indians games and six postseason championships, is set to enter his 46th season as Voice of the Indians. He will be joined in the booth by Andrew Kappes, Jack McMullen and Cheyne Reiter throughout the season. Kappes has been part of the club’s broadcast team since the 2015 campaign while Reiter filled in on broadcasts during the 2018 and 2021 seasons.

McMullen will be new to Indians broadcasts after spending the 2021 season broadcasting High-A Fort Wayne TinCaps games and also contributing to Ball State University women’s basketball and football broadcasts.

Lawn ($12), Reserved ($15), Box ($18), Yuengling Landing ($30), and Elements Financial Club ($85) single-game tickets are available along with season tickets, mini plans, group, and premium reservations. Thousands of student-archers to compete at Indiana NASP® State Tournament
The Indiana National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP®) State Tournament will be held this Saturday, March 12th, at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis. This marks the 16th annual tournament held by the program since its inception in January 2005. The Elements Blue Ribbon and Champions pavilions at the fairgrounds will host the NASP® Bullseye and NASP®/IBO 3D tournaments.

Schools across the state that have NASP® as a part of their curriculum were eligible to compete in qualifiers that were held from Jan. 1 through Feb. 6. Nearly 2,300 students qualified and were invited to compete in the NASP® Bullseye Tournament. The NASP®/IBO 3D Tournament will host more than 645 students.

At this year’s Indiana NASP® State Tournament, more than $40,000 in continuing education and military scholarships to over 80 competing graduating high school archers will be awarded. These scholarship funds were raised from the tournament sponsors and a matching grant from National NASP®. 

Indiana NASP® is provided for schools across the state through the DNR Division of Law Enforcement. The program started in the state in 2002 with 10 pilot schools and now has more than 600 schools trained to deliver the program to Indiana students. More than 70,000 Indiana students have benefitted.

The national organization’s slogan is NASP® “Changes Lives … One Arrow at A Time”.

Columbia City High School Student Named Poetry Out Loud State Champion
The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC), in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, announced today that Lila Ward (pictured right), a senior at Eagle Tech Academy, Columbia City High School, is the 2022 Indiana Poetry Out Loud State Champion. Lila will be representing Indiana in the 2022 Poetry Out Loud National Finals

Lila has participated in Poetry Out Loud for three years, enjoys theater, and operates her own cake decorating business, JoyCakes. She hopes to be a pharmaceutical chemist in the future. 

Poetry Out Loud is a national arts education program that encourages the study of great poetry by offering free educational materials and a dynamic recitation competition for high school students across the country. The program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about literary history and contemporary life. This year, over 1,000 high school students across Indiana participated in Poetry Out Loud. Fifteen state finalists competed on March 9th for the title of State Champion.  The 2022 Poetry Out Loud National Semifinals will take place on Sunday, May 1st, 2022, and the finals will take place on Sunday, June 5th, 2022. Both will be video submission-based competitions and will be streamed on arts.gov.   

This Week in Hoosier History

1893 – A reception was held at the Indiana Statehouse to honor General Benjamin Harrison.  He was returning home to Indianapolis after serving four years as President of the United States. Addresses by Indiana Governor Claude Matthews, Mayor Thomas Sullivan of Indianapolis, and the Honorable Charles W. Fairbanks welcomed him home. Governor Matthews said, “Four years ago Indiana was united in the honor done to one of her sons. Tonight, she welcomes him back again.”
