
IUWBB is #3 Seed in NCAA Tournament
The Indiana University Women’s Basketball team has been awarded the #3 Seed in the Bridgeport, Connecticut Region of the 2022 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament. Their first game will be against #14 seed Charlotte on Saturday, March 19th, time to be determined.
As a #3 seed, Assembly Hall will host the first two rounds of games, between March 18-21st.

The First-Round pairings in the Bridgeport Region include:
- #1 NC State vs #16 LGWD / MTSM
- #8 Washington State vs #9 Kansas State
- #5 Notre Dame vs #12 Massachusetts
- #4 Oklahoma vs #13 IUPUI
- #6 Kentucky vs #11 Princeton
- #3 Indiana vs #14 Charlotte
- #7 UCF vs #10 Florida
- #2 Connecticut vs #15 Mercer
Should Indiana advance, their region’s Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight will be held in Bridgeport, Connecticut. This year, the Final Four will convene at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota from April 1-3rd, where the 2022 National Champion will be crowned.
City Accepting Applications to Serve on City’s Boards and Commissions
The City of Bloomington’s Office of the Mayor is accepting applications from community members who would like to serve on one of the following City’s boards or commissions (click link for more info):
- Housing Quality Appeals Board (2)
- Housing Authority Board
- Commission on Sustainability (2)
- CDBG Funding Citizens Advisory Committe (5)
- Commission on Hispanic and Latino Affairs
- Parking Commission
The application is available HERE. After applying, members must be appointed to each board or commission by Mayor John Hamilton. Please note: city residency is required for membership on most but not all of the boards and commissions.
Prospective applicants are urged to attend a meeting of the board or commission of their choosing prior to applying. Meeting schedules for each body may be accessed by clicking on the links above. Robert Burks sentenced in 2019 church murder
Convicted killer Robert Burks was sentenced to 80 years in prison last week. Burks was found guilty of strangling and stabbing to death 58 year-old Julie Morey, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Indianapolis. Morey, a homeless woman, was a regular visitor of St. Patrick’s, that had filed previous police reports, complaining of physical assault at the hands of Burks.
This Week in Hoosier History

1879 – Sid Grauman was born in Indianapolis. He was one of the original 36 founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. He is best known for building Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, a landmark in Hollywood. The forecourt of the theatre is famous for nearly 200 celebrity hand and footprints in cement.
