2022 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament Pep Rally
Join IU Athletics and IUAA along with fellow Hoosier Fans for a pep rally before the Indiana Women’s Basketball team takes on Charlotte! Ticket includes food and cash bar for those 21 and over. This event will take place at Cook Hall and doors open at 12pm. This event is family friendly. Cost: $25 for both Saturday and Monday Pep Rally

Plainfield Walmart Distribution Center catches fire
A 1.2 million square foot Walmart distribution center caught fire in Plainfield, Indiana, on Wednesday afternoon. According to the Avon Police Department, the blaze began around 1pm, and was fully engulfed by the time the Fire Department arrived on the scene. It is unknown at this point, what started the fire, but the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives will be running the investigation, which could take weeks to complete.

It is believed that all Walmart employees. have been safely accounted for. One firefighter suffered minor injuries during the incident, but was medically released back to the scene quickly,

Mitchell Man Arrested for Neglect by ISP
32 year-old Ky Grubb of Mitchell has been arrested and incarcerated in the Lawrence County Jail on the offenses of Neglect of a Dependent, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Paraphernalia.

During the execution of a search warrant, it was discovered that Grubb was in possession of multiple smoking pipes with methamphetamine residue, multiple baggies containing methamphetamine residue, a plastic container with a small amount of methamphetamine, approximately 60 grams of marijuana, digital scales, and other drug paraphernalia. All of these items were located in the “living room” area of the camper within easy access of juvenile children, who had spent the previous night with Grubb.

The Department of Child Services was contacted, even though the juvenile children were not at the camper at the time of the search warrant execution.  DCS ensured the safety and well-being of the juveniles.

Time is running out to nominate volunteers for Bloomington’s Be More Award
City of Bloomington Mayor John Hamilton encourages all community members to nominate outstanding volunteers for the Be More Awards, the community volunteer awards presented by the City of Bloomington Volunteer Network, a program of the City of Bloomington Community and Family Resources Department. Nominations are being accepted now through Monday, March 21st.

Nominations may be submitted here by members of the general public, community organizations, or businesses. Awards are made in five categories, including Lifetime of Service (honoring an individual over age 60), Community Impact (honoring an individual or group), Youth (honoring a volunteer under the age of 21), Engagement Professionals (honoring a volunteer program within an organization), and Community Collaboration (excellence in community collaboration).  

Each of the five Be More Award recipients will receive a $1,000 award provided by the Community Foundation of Bloomington and Monroe County for the recipient’s nonprofit organization in honor of their outstanding service. 

An additional category without a cash award is available, honoring a community-minded business operating locally. This award recognizes a for-profit entity that has contributed time or talent to the community in the past year and demonstrated community impact and goodwill. A complete list of categories and criteria, including profiles of the 2021 award recipients, is available online. 

This Week in Hoosier History

2008 – Barack Obama, running for his first term in office, attended a campaign rally at Plainfield High School.  He told the crowd, “This is your campaign. This is your chance to make your mark on history.”
