In-Person Library Services Begin February 22

Beginning February 22, the Monroe County Public Library will resume limited in-building services at both locations. Curbside pickup will be discontinued. Hours will remain the same as current hours. The first open hour of each day will be reserved for high-risk customers. The Downtown Bloomington Library will have a building capacity of 100 and the Ellettsville Branch will have a capacity of 40. All patrons will be asked to limit visits to one hour. Children age 11 and under must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver. In-building services include the use of a computer, digital creativity workstations, scanner, fax machine, copier, and/or printer, as well as the ability to browse the shelves, and pick up holds. Seating will be removed to encourage brief, purposeful visits. Some high-touch collections, such as print newspapers and juvenile toys, are unavailable. Self-check machines are the preferred method for checking out. Holds placed prior to reopening can be accessed inside the buildings.

News at IU Bloomington: New Bloomington Health Sciences Building ready to welcome its first students (by Amanda Roach)

The site that once held IU’s driving range is now the proud home of IU’s Regional Academic Health Center, which includes a state-of-the-art academic building for many of IU Bloomington’s health sciences programs as well as a new hospital built for the future of health care. Announced in 2015, construction started on the project in 2018 following a groundbreaking ceremony that January. Over the last four years, the site has transformed into a health care campus that will serve not only as a space for teaching, learning and research, but also for hospital and trauma care for Indiana’s south-central region. IU Bloomington’s Health Sciences Building is now open on the site, with the hospital expecting to start caring for its first patients in late 2021.
