Mayor Pete sworn in as Secretary of Transportation

Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, and 2020 Democrat Presidential Candidate received confirmation yesterday, in becoming the new United States Secretary of Transportation. Buttigieg said he was honored and humbled by the vote in the Senate and mentioned that he is ready to get to work. The Department of Transportation distributes federal highway funding and regulates aviation, railroads, and busing.

Fatal Accident on I-64

Indiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred just before 2pm Tuesday on Interstate 64 near Dale. According to police, 46-year-old Charles D. Copeland, 46, of Evansville, was driving a 2014 Freightliner Semi tractor-trailer westbound on Interstate 64 near the 55-mile marker. Copeland was traveling in the right lane of Interstate 64 and was merging into the passing lane when his vehicle struck 67-year-old Gerald W. Kluemper, of Jasper. Investigators say Kluemper had parked his vehicle on the shoulder of the Interstate, exited his vehicle, and entered the lanes of traffic. Kluemper was pronounced dead at the scene. The investigation is ongoing and will include Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionist and Indiana State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Division.

Bloomington Fire and Police Chiefs, Community and Family Resources Director Present Fifth Annual Public Safety Report

The fifth annual joint Public Safety Report to the Community will update the community on the state of public safety in Bloomington, and the City’s continuous efforts to improve it. Tuesday, February 9, at 11 am, the presentation will be offered over Zoom video conferencing and streamed live over several of the City’s social media pages, including https://www.facebook.com/citybloomington. Mayor Hamilton introduced the annual Public Safety Report to the community in 2017 as part of a City-wide effort to establish greater transparency and accountability in government functions and services.
