Indiana University Baseball beats Illinois State 3-1
For the fifth time in its last six games, the Indiana baseball program collected a victory, this time a 3-1 decision at Illinois State on Wednesday evening at Duffy Bass Field. Indiana (18-23) opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning before Illinois State (15-21) got one run back in the third. A single run in the sixth inning for the Hoosiers capped the scoring, as the IU bullpen didn’t allow a run over the final five innings.
 
Graduate student Tyler Doanes was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, while freshman Brock Tibbitts walked three times and scored one run. Freshman Evan Gorforth doubled for his first collegiate hit, which also drove in his first career RBI. Senior Peter Serruto added the other Hoosier RBI. Starting pitcher and Edgewood HS Graduate Luke Hayden (4-0) picked up the win with four innings of work and just one unearned run allowed. The freshman allowed just two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out five. Redshirt-sophomore Jack Walker thew the next three innings scoreless with a career-high five strikeouts and freshman Grant Holderfield struck out one in a scoreless frame.
 
Redshirt-sophomore Reese Sharp came on and threw a scoreless ninth inning to collect his second save of the year with two strikeouts. As a staff, Indiana allowed seven hits and just the one unearned run with 13 strikeouts and just one walk on the night. Ryan Cermak and Kayden Beauregard each chipped in two hits, with Beauregard scoring the lone run and Cermak driving in the RBI for ISU. Colin Wyman (3-1) took the loss with two runs allowed on three hits with four strikeouts and three walks in four innings of work.  Indiana Hosts Illinois starting at Noon this afternoon in a three-game series at Bart Kaufman Field today’s game has been moved up due to the weather forecast for this evening in the Bloomington Area calling for rain.

Indiana University Women’s Golfer Aine Donegan earns NCAA Berth
Indiana freshman Aine Donegan who was recently named to the All-Big Ten Second Team, has earned an individual spot in the 2022 NCAA Ann Arbor Regional played at the University of Michigan Golf Course. Donegan will be the first player to represent Indiana in an NCAA Regional as an individual since Erin Harper (2018) played in the Stillwater Regional. The Hoosiers made a regional appearance as a team in 2019, finishing sixth in the NCAA Lansing Regional. Tracy Chapman (1988) and Debbie Lee (1989) are the only additional individuals to qualify for a regional in program history. The team has made 11 total regionals since 1985.
 
During her debut collegiate season, Donegan set the Indiana University single-season and freshman stroke average (72.92). She played all 26 rounds for the Hoosiers in nine events. She placed inside the top-10 in four events and was twice a top-5 finisher. Her first collegiate victory came in the Courtney Cole Invitational.
 
The NCAA selected 72 teams, 12 teams in each of the six regionals, and 36 individuals, six in each regional, to compete in postseason play. Each regional will consist of a 54-hole tournament from May 9-11. The low four teams and the low two individuals, not on one of those teams, will advance to the NCAA Championships to be played from May 20-25 at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Bloomington Speedway opens Season with Larry Rice Classic
Bloomington Speedway will be opening the 2022 season with the Larry Rice Classic this evening after the first two scheduled events were canceled due to weather. USAC Sprints will be in action for their first visit to the Red Clay of 2022. Hornets and the 305 Racesaver Sprints will also be providing the racing action. Pit Gate opens 4pm and Pit Admission is $35/10 & under $15. Main Gates open at 5 pm and General Admission is $30/10 & under free. Hot Laps begin at 6:30 pm and Racing begins 730 pm. Indiana Fever host Chicago Sky in WNBA preseason opener
The Indiana Fever will host the Chicago Sky tomorrow afternoon at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis at 3pm in the WNBA Preseason opener. The Fever are coming off 6-26 season and a lot of new faces on this year’s team. The Fever had 4 first round picks adding NaLyssa Smith from Baylor, Emily Engslter from Louisville, Lexie Hull from Stanford and Queen Egbo from Baylor. The Fever drafted Destanni Henderson from South Carolina in the second round, In the third round Ameshya Williams-Holliday from Jackson State and Ali Patberg from Indiana were selected. Erin Whalen an undrafted rookie from Dayton is in training camp.

Patberg along with undrafted rookie Michaela Kelly and Haley Gorecki were all waived by the team after training camp began. Chesley Perry will not play for the Fever this season due to personal reasons and has been put on the suspended list. 6-10 Bernadett Hatar from Hungary suffered an injury while playing overseas and will miss the season and her contract has been suspended for the 2022 season.

The Fever will play their second and final preseason game Monday afternoon at Dallas and then open the season on Friday Night on road against the Washington Mystics.

Indianapolis Indians Coverage  

Indians Fall at Iowa 7-3 Thursday Night

 A two-run seventh inning in which Iowa failed to record a hit lifted the Cubs past the Indianapolis Indians on Thursday night, 7-3. The loss marked Indy’s second of the six-game series and dropped the Indians back to .500 on the season. The Teams finish up the six-games series this weekend. The teams will play at 8:08 pm tonight, 7:08 pm tomorrow and Sunday at 2:08 pm.
