IHSAA announces Sectional assignments for six team sports
The Indiana High School Athletic Association Executive Committee announced Tuesday the sectional groupings for Football, Volleyball, Girls and Boys Soccer along with Girls and Boys Basketball for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years. Softball and Baseball assignments be announced in August. Sectional Hosts for each sport will be decided between the school’s administrators in that group over the summer.

IU Football’s Ryder Anderson signs with Green Bay Packers
Former Indiana defensive end Ryder Anderson has received a training camp invite to the Green Bay Packers. Anderson played one season for the Hoosiers and was an Honorable-mention All-Big Ten selection. He had 48 tackles, 28 solo, 3.5 sacks (21 yards) and 8.5 tackles for loss (30 yards).

Before Indiana, he played in 37 games (14 starts) for Ole Miss. Anderson totaled 99 tackles, 38 solo, 6.5 sacks, 15 tackles for loss, 17 quarterback hurries, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, one pass breakup, and one blocked punt

Anderson joins former Hoosier offensive lineman Caleb Jones who also signed with the Packers following going undrafted in the NFL Draft.

Former IU Women’s Basketball Player Aleksa Gulbe waived by Connecticut Sun
Former Indiana University Women’s Basketball player Aleksa Gulbe has been waived by the WNBA’s Connecticut Sun. Gulbe went undrafted and was invited to the Sun’s training camp.  Gulbe played 7 minutes Sunday in a 94-78 win over the Atlanta Dream. She missed her on shot from the field, pulled down 2 rebounds and had 2 assists.

The Riga, Latvia native wrapped up her four-year Indiana career in 2021-22 as she earned All-Big Ten second team honors. She averaged 11.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.0 blocks per game and shot 80.4 percent at the free throw for the Hoosiers, who advanced to its second-straight NCAA Tournament. She scored in double figures 26 times and tied a team-high three double-doubles. As part of a three-person class with Ali Patberg and Grace Berger, Gulbe became one of the program’s all-time winningest players with 90 victories. She played in 123 games for Indiana, becoming the 31st member of the 1,000-point club and finishing 28th overall in scoring (1,071) and pulled down 681 rebounds. Gulbe also plays internationally with the Latvian Senior National team.

Former Indiana Football Player Marcelino McCrary-Ball signs with 49ers
Former Indiana football defensive back Marcelino McCrary-Ball signed a free agent deal with the San Francisco 49ers. McCrary-Ball was a two-time team-captain with Indiana and collected 242 tackles in 52 career games. He added 16.5 tackles for loss, 5.5 sacks, four interceptions and 17 pass deflections in his career.

Coming off of an ACL injury in 2020, McCrary-Ball had 40 tackles, one interception and one sack in 2021. As a junior in 2019, he had 47 tackles and two sacks and as a sophomore, McCrary-Ball was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention after totaling 59 tackles and 2.5 sacks. As a freshman, he was named a True Freshman All-American and All-Big Ten Honorable Mention after having 75 tackles and two interceptions.

McCrary-Ball becomes the sixth player from Indiana to sign a free-agent contract or receive a mini camp invite following the NFL Draft. Micah McFadden was the lone Hoosier drafted this season by the New York Giants in the fifth round.

Indianapolis Indians Coverage  

Indians Fall to Louisville 6-3

The Indianapolis Indians fell to the Louisville Bats 6-3 Tuesday evening at Victory Field. Louisville scored 2 runs in the 5th, 6th, and 7th innings. The Bats had 9 hits and one error and improve to 9-16 on the season. The Indians fall to 13-11 on the season. Indianapolis scored a run in the second, fifth and seventh innings. The Indians had 5 hits and 3 errors. The two teams meet at 1:35 pm this afternoon for game 2 of the six-game series.

The Indianapolis Indians, in conjunction with the Pittsburgh Pirates, have made the following changes to their roster Tuesday. Infielder Brendt Citta has been transferred from Indianapolis to Double-A Altoona. Right-Handed Pitcher Brad Case has been transferred from Indianapolis to Double-A Altoona. Left-Handed Pitcher Sam Howard has been optioned by Pittsburgh and is active in Indianapolis Right-Handed Pitcher Miguel Yajure has been optioned by Pittsburgh and is active in Indianapolis.
