Indiana University Women’s and Men’s Basketball announce Hoosier Hysteria, set for October 7th
Two of the most anticipated athletic traditions at Indiana University come together this fall when Hoosier Hysteria, the annual tip-off of the men’s and women’s basketball programs, will be held Homecoming Weekend on Friday, Oct. 7. The event will not conflict with the University’s annual Homecoming Parade which also occurs that day. IU men’s coach Mike Woodson and women’s coach Teri Moren will unveil their 2022-23 basketball teams to Hoosier fans that evening. Admittance to the 90-minute season-opening event in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall is free with open seating. Attendees are asked to bring a canned food item to donate to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank. On Saturday October 8, the football team will host Michigan at noon at Memorial Stadium.

The men’s team, which is trending to be nationally ranked in the preseason for the first time since 2016, returns four starters and 12 lettermen from a team which advanced in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five seasons. IU also had its best showing in the Big Ten Tournament in nine years with a semifinal appearance and are led by senior captain’s and All-Big Ten forwards Trayce Jackson-Davis and Race Thompson.  In addition, the four-man freshman class is rated the eighth best in the nation by 247 Sports. “I know I was overwhelmed by the love shown to me by Hoosier Nation last year and I can assure you we will have a fun evening,” said Woodson in Press Release. “Our players and staff are excited about what’s ahead and we can’t wait to spend time with the best fan base in the country for the first time with our group.”

On the women’s side, Indiana is coming off back-to-back Sweet Sixteen appearances and its seventh-straight 20-win season under ninth year head coach Teri Moren. In 2021-22, all five starters garnered All-Big Ten honors while forward Mackenzie Holmes and guard Grace Berger, who both return for the upcoming campaign, hauled in a combined four All-American honorable mention honors. The Hoosiers finished 24-9 last season and advanced to the Big Ten Tournament championship game for the first time in 20 years. They hosted NCAA Tournament action for the first time in program history, clinching its trip to the Bridgeport regional with wins over Charlotte and Princeton inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. IU will welcome seven new players to its roster for the upcoming campaign, including four freshmen and a trio of transfers including 2020 Indiana Ms. Basketball Sydney Parrish. “Hoosier Hysteria is a special event for our program and a way for us to celebrate the upcoming season with the best fans in college basketball. Indiana University Football lands verbal commitment from Florida DB Amare Farrell
One week after making an official visit to Indiana, 2023 Columbia HS (Fla.) safety Amare Farrell announced his commitment to the Hoosiers’ football program. Farrell committed to Indiana over offers from Cincinnati, Penn State, Arizona, Kentucky, Louisville, Florida State, Miami (Fla.), Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Tennessee, UCF and others.

At 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, Farrell is a four-star prospect and ranked as the No. 27 safety in the class. He is also ranked the No. 72 overall player in Florida. Ferrell becomes the fourth member of the class of 2023 for Tom Allen and Indiana. He joined offensive lineman William Larkins, tight end Sam West and quarterback Broc Lowry. Ferrell was one of nearly a dozen prospects on campus for official visits over the past two weekends.

Bloomington North Graduate Deborah Jones announces transfer to Arizona State for softball Bloomington North Graduate Deborah Jones has announced she will play her final two seasons of College Softball at Arizona State University. Jones has played the last three seasons at Ball State and has been a pitcher. In 69 career appearances she started 44 games with a 25-17 record and 2.74 ERA. Jones has thrown 18 complete games, 7 shutouts, and has 4 saves in 286 innings pitched. Jones has given up 260 hits, 152 runs, 112 earned runs, 141 walks, and 229 strikeouts.

Jones Graduated High School in 2019 and was a team captain for the Cougars and nearly untouchable in the circle as a senior, compiling a 6-1 record and a 0.52 ERA over 54 innings of work … allowed just 26 hits and four runs on the season, while striking out 74 batters … recorded a .237 average at the plate as a senior, with a pair of doubles, six runs scored, and four RBI … a first team all-conference selection and team Most Valuable Player as a junior, Jones hit .431 last year with a 28 hits, 19 runs scored, and 13 RBI … in the circle, she tallied a 4-1 record and a 2.76 ERA over 33 innings of work, striking out 59 batters in the process … as a sophomore, she earned second team all-conference honors after helping guide the Cougars to a 14-6 overall record and a sectional championship … she batted .413 has a sophomore, with 19 hits, 11 runs scored, and 10 RBI … in the circle, she tallied a 1-1 record with a 3.82 ERA over 11 innings, while adding 15 strikeouts.

Edgewood’s Caden Huttenlocker announces commitment to Lincoln Trail Community College for Basketball
Edgewood Graduate Caden Huttenlocker has announced his commitment to Lincoln Trail Community College to play basketball. Lincoln Trail is located in Robinson Illinois and had three players from the state of Indiana on its roster this past season and had 14-14 record.

Huttenlocker as a senior averaged 18.7 points per game, 2.8 assists, 5.8 rebounds and 2.2 steals. He shot 59 percent from the field overall, 45 percent from three-point range and 56 percent inside the arc. Edgewood finished 12-14 in the 2021-22 season and lost to Northview 60-52 in the Class 3A Sectional Championship Game. Huttenlocker was named to Wabash Valley Classic All-Tournament Team last December and played for the West Team in 2022 Hoosier Basketball Coaches Assocation All Star Game at Barr-Reeve HS in April.

Indians Begin Six Game Series in Nashville

The Indianapolis Indians starts a six-game series in against the Nashville Sounds at First Horizon Park in Nashville Tennessee at 8:05pm this evening. The Indians are 35-35 on the season and beat the Memphis Redbirds 6-2 Sunday afternoon at Victory Field in Indianapolis to split that series 3-3. Nashville is 43-28 on the season and won four out of six against Gwinnett at home. The Sounds won 9-8 Sunday and come into tonight’s game with a three-game winning streak. The Teams will play at 8:05 pm tonight through Saturday with Sunday’s game scheduled for 7:05pm.
