Firefighter injured during a fire call
A City of Bloomington firefighter was transported to the hospital following a structure fire at 2600 North Walnut Street on Thursday morning. The Former Park Place Apartments are currently abandoned, and the cause of the fire is believed to be an illegal attempt to burn wire to salvage the copper. The injured firefighter was released from the hospital and was expected to recover in time for their next shift. No other injuries were reported from the incident.

Lady Hoosiers pull out tough win against #11 Michigan
The defense was tight, the play was physical, and both coaches appeared frustrated with the calls, or lack there of . . . and that was just the opening minutes of The Indiana Michigan Women’s Basketball game last evening. The Michigan bench was fully engaged with both frequent substitutions and loudly cheering along their teammates with each positive play. It was a scrappy game with energy on both sides of the ball for each of these two nationally ranked teams. Defensively, Michigan prevented IU from establishing their standard inside offense, and Michigan was up by 4 at the end of the first quarter; but perimeter success allowed IU to take a short halftime lead. Indiana wound up shooting 50% from the arc, hitting 9 3’s during the game. Although MacKenzie Holmes was double and triple teamed most of the night, and Grace Berger was shut out of the offense in the first half, their defensive contributions proved invaluable. IU Coach Teri Moren paid respect to the Wolverines but emphasized the level of play her women exhibited to keep the game close, and ultimately pull off a 70-65 victory. Senior Guard Ali Patberg spoke about the high level of competition in the Big Ten, and she nailed it while stating that, “any team could win on any night,” so they need to always play at the highest caliber . . . which they did tonight, and then some. Next up, the 14 and 4 Lady Hoosiers take a second look at Iowa at home this Sunday.

Laurie Burns McRobbie Serve IT Clinic to provide experience in non-profit sector
Serve IT, Indiana University’s service-learning clinic that connects IU students with nonprofit organizations that require their expertise, has been a passion for IU first lady Laurie Burns McRobbie since she helped found it in 2011, and the clinic will now bear her name.  Thanks to an endowment from Deb Allmayer and James Williams, the clinic will be known as the Laurie Burns McRobbie Serve IT Clinic. Allmayer and Williams made the naming gift in appreciation of McRobbie’s drive to provide students with hands-on, real-world experience while still pursuing their degree and serving the community. Serve IT is housed in the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering and is a joint project with the Kelley School of Business and the O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs.
