Indiana Cutters travel to Ohio to face Columbus Gladiators
The Indiana Cutters Semi Pro Football Team hits the road for its longest trip the season when they face the Columbus Gladiators with a 7 pm kickoff Saturday Night at Lancaster HS in Lancaster Ohio. Lancaster is located 33 Miles Southeast of Columbus and a three-hour trip from Indianapolis. The Teams met June 4, in Martinsville with Gladiators winning 38-36. Torrell Williamson had 2 rushing touchdowns and Marquise Holt added a rushing touchdown. Isaiah Moore caught two touchdown passes from Travis Griffey. The Gladiators threw for 241 yards and five touchdown passes.

The Cutters have scored 80 points on the season and have given up 88 points. The Cutters lost to the Cin City Buccaneers 20-2 on June 25. The Gladiators have scored 110 points on the season and have given up 82 points. The Gladiators beat the Tuscarawas County Warriors 16-8 on June 25, on the road. This a big game for both teams with the second half of the season getting underway Saturday Night.

The Blue-Collar Football League had the week off for the Fourth Of July Holiday last week. With six regular season games left every game is important as playoffs approach in August. The Cutters are 2-2 and tied for 3rd place in the five team Western Conference. The Gladiators are 4-0 and with a 2-game lead in the Eastern Conference and look to get one game closer to getting the top seed in the East. The top four teams in Each Division make the playoffs with the League Championship Game Scheduled for September 10.

Indiana Pacers kick off NBA Summer League action in Las Vegas
The Indiana Pacers will play the Charlotte Hornets at 6 pm this evening their opening game of the NBA Las Vegas Summer League. The Game will be played at the Thomas and Mack Center on the UNLV Campus fans can watch the game on ESPN2. All 30 NBA teams will be in Las Vegas for 10 days as action kicked off Thursday Night and goes through July 17. Games will also be played Cox Pavillion which is next door to the Thomas and Mack Center and fans can go back and forth between the two venues for one low price.

Summer League is designed for the teams to look at their young players, draft picks and free agents who are all trying to impress to get a spot on a training camp roster before this season starts this fall. The Pacers will play Sacramento at 3 pm Sunday on ESPN in Cox Pavillion. Tuesday at 9 pm against Detroit in the Thomas and Mack Center on NBA TV and Friday against Washington at 9 pm on ESPN2 in the Thomas and Mack Center. There will be one more game that Pacers will play next Saturday or Sunday depending on the results of the first four games. The Championship game will be held Sunday July 17 at 3 pm on ESPN in the Thomas and Mack Center.

Indy Eleven Host Detroit City FC in Men’s and Women’s Soccer doubleheader
The Indy Eleven Men’s and Women’s Soccer Teams will host Detroit City FC in Women’s and Men’s Soccer Doubleheader at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on the IUPUI campus in Downtown Indianapolis Saturday and fans get into both games with one ticket. The Action begins at 2 pm with the Women’s Teams facing off before the Men’s Teams kickoff at 7pm. The Indy Eleven will look to break the attendance record for a women’s soccer match in the Hoosier State of 4,137 spectators which was set when the U.S. Women’s National Team played France in 1996 at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis.   The Indy Eleven Women’s Team is 9-0-2 in their first season and has won the Great Lakes Division Championship in the USL W-League. and this is the final regular season matchup for the Girls in Blue.

The Indy Eleven Men’s Team is 6-8-3 on the season with 21 points halfway through its 34-game regular season in the United Soccer League Championship. The Eleven lost to the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 1-0 Wednesday Night in Pittsburgh for its fourth loss in a row. Detroit City FC is coming off a 1-1 draw to Hartford Athletic at home. Detroit City FC is 8-6-4 on the season with 27 points. This is the first of two meetings this season as the teams will meet September 3rd in Hamtramck Michigan.

Former Indiana University Men’s Basketball Player Thomas Bryant signs with the Los Angeles Lakers
Former Indiana University Men’s Basketball Player Thomas Bryant has signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. Bryant played at IU from 2015-2017 and was originally drafted by the Lakers in the second round of the 2017 draft, but he was waived after a rookie season that saw him play in only 52 games. He gives this Lakers team more frontcourt depth and a starting-caliber center to pair alongside Anthony Davis.

Bryant, who will turn 25 on July 31, played a combined 37 games over the past two seasons after a torn ACL cost him most of the 2020-21 and 2021-22 campaigns with the Washington Wizards. A five-year pro, Bryant has career averages of 10.2 points and 5.7 rebounds per game and has established himself as a productive offensive big man since getting extended playing time in Washington. The 6-foot-10 center averaged 13.2 points and 7.2 rebounds in 46 games during the 2019-20 season, his best year as a pro, before the knee injury took away most of the past two seasons.

Right-Handed Pitcher Mike Burrows Selected to MLB All Star Futures Game  

Major League Baseball announced that Indians right-handed starter Mike Burrows was among those selected to participate in the 2022 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, making him the first player from Indianapolis to earn a roster spot since first baseman Will Craig in 2019. The seven-inning, prospect-loaded contest will take place on Saturday, July 16 at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. Burrows was originally selected by Pittsburgh in the 11th round (324th overall) of the 2018 First-Year Player Draft out of Waterford (Conn.) High School.

Burrows, who is currently rated as Pittsburgh’s No. 10 prospect by MLB Pipeline, was promoted from Double-A Altoona to Indianapolis on June 16 following a stellar start to the season. At the time of his promotion, he was tied for the Eastern League lead with 12 starts and also ranked sixth among league leaders with a 2.94 ERA (17er/52.0ip) and .199 average against, seventh with 69 strikeouts and 10th with a 1.10 WHIP. The 22-year-old has made three starts with the Indians and is 0-1 with a 6.00 ERA (8er/12.0ip) and 12 strikeouts. His best Triple-A outing came on June 25 vs. Memphis when he allowed just one run over 4.1 innings.
