The Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana extends our most heartfelt sympathy to the family, friends, City of Bloomington, IN – Fire Department, and sisters and brothers of Bloomington Local 586 on the sudden passing of active member, Brother Bob Loviscek. Brother Loviscek was a past president of Local 586 and former PFFUI 6th District Vice-president. Brother Loviscek was a spirited trade unionist that believed in the mission of the International Association of Fire Fighters, PFFUI, and his Local union. Brother Loviscek comes from a proud family tradition of service in the fire department and served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps. May Brother Loviscek rest in peace and his family know the love this union has for Bob and his entire family.

City of Bloomington Hidden River Pathway Project update
The two-year downtown stormwater infrastructure reconstruction project to prevent flooding during rain events will continue to necessitate the closure of East 4th Street between Lincoln and Grant. The City of Bloomington will coordinate with other construction and road projects as they reconstruct 1,829 feet of culverts to protect downtown area residential and commercial buildings. There will be no changes to the traffic pattern this week. However, Duke Energy will be de-energizing the lines in the alley between Soma and The Venue, so there may be some congestion in the alley when they are there working.

This Week in Hoosier History

1963 – The United States Post Office introduced the Zone Improvement Plan, otherwise known as Zip Codes. Indiana, along with Kentucky, Ohio, and Michigan, was assigned a first number of “4.” The next four numbers identified sections and areas of the postal district.
