Indiana House sends budget proposals to the State Senate
The State Legislature is working on a $36 billion dollar state budget proposal, which has been transferred from the House to the Senate. The budget proposal includes nearly $400 Million increase on education over the next two years. A portion of the increase will be provided in vouchers for students to affordably attend a private school which could better match the needs of the individual student. Additionally, the state will look to offset some of its spending increased with revenue derived from an additional $ .50 per pack tobacco tax.
Co-Director of IU Center for Religion and the Human appointed
J. Kameron Carter, professor of religious studies at Indiana University Bloomington, has been appointed co-director of the Center for Religion and the Human. Carter will share responsibilities with Winnifred Fallers Sullivan, Provost Professor of religious studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at IU Bloomington. Carter, who joined IU Bloomington in 2018, is an expert in the intersections of Blackness with religion, theology, ecology, and American culture.
Bloomington residents advised to maintain clear storm drains
The City of Bloomington Utilities Department alerts residents to the potential for flooding this weekend. Due to heavy snowfall during recent weeks and higher temperatures expected over the weekend, we will likely experience snow melt. To complement the Street Division’s work clearing streets, residents are encouraged to clear snow, ice accumulation, and other debris from storm drains so that the anticipated high volume of snow melt can easily reach the drains and prevent flooding.
