
Indian Creek HS Girls Basketball Player Faith Wiseman commits to IUWBB for 2024
Indiana University Women’s Basketball Head Coach Teri Moren landed her first commitment for the class of 2024 as 6-4 Wing/Power Foward Faith Wiseman announced she would be joining the Hoosiers. Wiseman is from Indian Creek HS in Talfalgar Indiana which is located South of Franklin. Wiseman is ranked 4th statewide in her class by Prep Girls Hoops. She averaged a double-double as a sophomore (12 points, 11 rebounds, 3 blocks). She had 22 offers per a recent tweet, including Purdue, Butler, Iowa, Villanova, Wisconsin and Illinois.
Indian Creek is in the Western Indiana Conference and fans will get a chance to see Wiseman this winter. She will play Saturday November 5 at Martinsville 7:30pm, Friday December 2 at Owen Valley in Spencer at 6pm and Friday December 16 at Edgewood at 6 pm in Ellettsville. Wiseman cannot sign a National Letter of Intent until her senior season.
Former Indiana University Men’ Soccer Player Caleb Porter fired as Columbus Crew Head Coach
The Columbus Crew fired head coach and former Indiana University Men’s Soccer player Caleb Porter on Monday after Sunday’s loss eliminated them from post-season contention. The Crew could have clinched a berth with a draw against Orlando City SC but instead lost 2-1. Orlando City converted a penalty kick in the 84th minute to snap a tie and defeat the Crew. Columbus also played to a tie with expansion Charlotte FC on Wednesday. Porter recorded a 45-43-37 regular season record and helped the club secure an MLS Cup (2020) and the Campeones Cup (2021). In Columbus overall he was 52-46-39 with an Eastern Conference Playoff title in 2020.
Porter played for the Hoosiers from 1994-97 and played just 11 games in Major League Soccer from 1998-2000 before ending his player career due to knee injuries. Porter was an assistant coach for IU from 2000-2005. He became the head coach at the University of Akron in 2006 and was 119-18-17 overall with 2010 NCAA Championship and runners up in 2009 and 6 NCAA Tournament Appearances in 7 seasons as head coach. Porter was the United States Under 23 National Team head coach in 2011-12 but the Americans were eliminated after two games trying to qualify for the 2012 London Olympics.
Porter coached the Portland Timbers from 2013-17 going 85-60-57. Winning the MLS Coach of the year award in 2013 and MLS Cup Championship in 2015. Porter won two Western Conference Regular Season Titles in 2013 and 2017 and the Western Conference Playoffs in 2015. In MLS his overall record is 137-106-106
IHSAA Football State Tournament draw announced
Pairings were announced for the 2022 IHSAA State Football Tournament with teams competing in six different classes all looking to get to Lucas Oil Stadium for the State Finals Thanksgiving Weekend. Class 1A through 4A will start Friday October 21st with Sectional first round games while Class 5A and 6A will start October 28th due to the fewer number of teams competing in those classes.
In Class 4A Edgewood will travel two hours to East Central start the Sectional. East Central is located in Saint Leon Indiana of Interstate 74 and just a few miles from the Ohio State Line. Edgewood 1-7 on the season and have not won since week 1 when they beat Mitchell at home. East Central is 7-1 and their only loss came in Week 3 at Cincinnati Moeller Ohio 43-14. The Trojans are putting up 39.1 points per game and just giving up 10 points on defense. These two teams met November 2, 2018, in Sectional Championship at Edgewood and East Central won 57-22. The winner of this game will face the winner of the Sliver Creek 3-5 at Jennings County 2-6. On the other side of the bracket Bedford North Lawrence 4-4 will travel to Shelbyville 1-7 while Martinsville 6-2 travels to 1-7 Greenwood.
In Class 5A Seymour 6-2 will travel Bloomington North 4-4 while Bloomington South 6-1 travels to 4-4 Columbus East with the winners meeting in championship game November 4th. Bloomington South will travel to Seymour on Friday in the regular season finale. Bloomington North won at Columbus East 24-7 in Week 7.
Indiana-Rutgers Football game to be televised on Big Ten Network
A noon kickoff from SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey, will air on Big Ten Network when the Indiana football program travels to take on Rutgers Saturday, Oct. 22. Indiana (3-3, 1-2 B1G) and Rutgers (3-3, 0-3 B1G) will meet for the ninth time in program history. IU owns a 5-3 overall record versus the Scarlet Knights and has won five of the last six meetings. Each of the meetings in the series have come as Big Ten opponents, with the first coming in Piscataway during the 2014 season.
Indiana University Men’s Golf in 5th Place at Purdue Fall Invitational
Indiana University Men’s Golf is in 5th place after day 1 of the Purdue Fall Invitational in West Lafayette Indiana. The Hoosiers have a team score 586 through the first two rounds which is 10 over par. Tennessee leads the field with a score of 563, LSU is in Second 12 strokes back followed by Purdue and Little Rock. Ball State is in 13th place with a team score of 609. Mitch Davis is tied for 9th place after shooting an even par 144 through the first two rounds. Bryce Lewis of Tennessee is the leader with 134 which is 10 under par. The final two rounds will get underway this morning at 9am.
