Indiana Women’s Basketball Starts NCAA Tournament This Afternoon

The 4th Seed Indiana Hoosiers kick off the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament a Mercado Region Game against the 13th seed VCU Rams. The game is on ESPNU at 2 PM and is at the UTSA Convocation Center in San Antonio Texas. IU is in its 7th NCAA Tournament Appearance and is 3-6 all time in NCAA Tournament History. Teri Moren is 2-2 as the Hoosiers Head Coach Winning First Round games against Georgia in 2016 and Texas in 2019.  The Hoosiers fell at Norte Dame in 2016 and at Oregon in 2019 in the second round.

Tarrin Gilliland Wins NCAA Platform Diving Championship

Indiana Freshman Tarrin Gilliland won the NCAA Platform Diving Championship in Greensboro North Carolina Saturday Night. The Midland Texas Native had a score of 338.40. She Becomes the 3rd Hoosier to win the event joining Cassandra Cardinell in 2005 and Jessica Peratto in 2015. The Hoosiers have extended there Big Ten Record with an Individual Title in 7 straight NCAA Championships. Indiana Finished 15th with 102 Points as Virginia won the National Championship with a score of 491 Points.  

Texas Tech, Houston, LSU and Ohio Win NCAA First Round Games in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall

Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall Hosted four first round games this past weekend as the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament is being held entirely in the State of Indiana. Friday 6th Seed Texas Tech beat 11 seed Utah State 65-53 in the South Region and 2 seed Houston beat 15 seed Cleveland State 87-56 in the Midwest Region. On Saturday 8 seed LSU beat 9 Seed St Bonaventure 76-61 in the East Region. LSU Sophomore Trendon Watford had a double-double with 11 Points and 11 Rebounds. Watford is the brother of former IU Basketball Player Christian Watford. The Final Game saw 13 Seed Ohio Upset 4 Seed Virginia 62-58 in the East Region. One First Round game was declared a no contest when 10 Seed VCU had to withdraw from the tournament because of positive tests within its program. The Rams were to play 7th seed Oregon Saturday Night at the Coliseum the Ducks will now advances to this afternoon Second Round Game against 2 Seed Iowa. Top Seed Illinois went down to 8seed Loyola Chicago 71-58 in the second round at Bankers Life Fieldhouse Sunday Afternoon.  The Second Round concludes this Evening.     

Bloomington South Boys Basketball Loses to Lawrence North In Semistate Championship Game

Bloomington South Boys Basketball Season came to end with a 54-52 loss Lawrence North in the Class 4A Semistate Championship Game at Seymour HS. The Panthers finish the year at 25-5 and have an 18-game winning streak snapped. Lawrence North is 28-2 and extend their winning to 12 games.  Lawrence North has won their 5th semi state championship winning in 1989, 2004, 2005 and 2006 and won the State Championship in those same years.  Lawrence North will Face Carmel For State Championship on Saturday April 3rd at Bankers Life Fieldhouse at 8:30 PM.  Four State Champions will be crowned that day in Class 1A at 10 AM its Kouts taking on Barr-Reeve. Class 2A at 1:30 PM Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian vs Parke Heritage and in Class 3A at 5 PM Leo makes it first state finals appearance taking on defending champion Silver Creek.
