Indiana University Men’s Basketball Host Little Rock
Indiana University continues its 123rd season of competition in men’s basketball with the second of three matchups in the second-annual Hoosier Classic. The Hoosiers will host Little Rock at 6:30 pm this evening at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. The game will be broadcasted on BTN. The Trojans are coached by fifth-year head coach Darrell Walker, who played 10 seasons in the NBA with the New York Knicks, Denver Nuggets, Washington Bullets, Detroit Pistons, and Chicago Bulls.

Senior forward Trayce Jackson-Davis recorded his 33rd-career double-double with 17 points and 16 points in Indiana’s 86-56 victory over Miami (Ohio) in the first contest of the Hoosier Classic. In his last three games, the Center Grove product has made 28-of-34 (82.4%) shots from the field. True freshman forward Malik Reneau tallied 10 points, four rebounds, and a career-best three steals in the win over the RedHawks. True freshman guard Jalen Hood-Schifino contributed a season-high 12 points and five boards. Fifth-year senior forward Miller Kopp added 10 points, his second double-figure scoring output of the season. The Hoosier bench has outscored opponents 143-47 through three games. The second unit has accounted for 40.2% of IU’s scoring output this season. True freshman forward Malik Reneau and junior forward Jordan Geronimo are second and sixth, respectively, in scoring on the Hoosiers this season. The frontcourt duo averages 18.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest on 30-of-45 shooting (67.7%) from the floor. Sophomore guard Tamar Bates and sophomore guard Trey Galloway lead the second unit backcourt. The guards have combined for a 2.6-1 assist-turnover ratio and are shooting 5-of-14 (35.7%) from the 3-point line this season. Junior forward Jordan Geronimo is second on the team in bench scoring at 7.0 points per game. He is currently shooting 66.7% from the floor in 13 minutes per game. True freshman forward Malik Reneau leads all Hoosiers in bench points (46), rebounds (19), and steals (5) despite only seeing 17.4 minutes of run per outing.

Indiana and Little Rock will meet on the hardwood for the third time tonight. Indiana has won the previous two matchups by an average of 26.0 points. The Hoosiers are 26-0 against teams currently in the Ohio Valley Conference, including an 88-53 victory over Morehead State to open the 2022-23 season. The Hoosiers are 4-0 all time as hosts of the Hoosier Classic. This season’s field includes Jackson State, Little Rock, and Miami (Ohio). Little Rock earned a hard-fought victory over Jackson State 94-91 in their first matchup. The Hoosiers will finish the Classic with a matchup against Jackson State at 12:30 pm Friday. Little Rock will close the event with a 1 p.m. ET tip against Miami (Ohio) on Saturday.

Camyrn Haworth named AVCA Division 1 national player of the week
Following one of the most brilliant statistical weekends in Indiana Volleyball history, Camryn Haworth was named the AVCA/Gamechanger DI National Player of the Week. The Fishers, Ind. native helped lead IU to victories over Northwestern and No. 5 Ohio State. The win over the Buckeyes was the program’s first-ever win over a top-five team on the road.

Haworth was brilliant across the weekend. Against Northwestern, she recorded the program’s first triple-double since 2001 with 37 assists, 11 digs and 10 kills. She also provided a career-best seven blocks, coming just three blocks away from a quadruple-double. She followed that up with a resounding double-double against the Buckeyes, putting up 45 assists and 16 digs in the victory. Haworth also tallied eight kills, four blocks and one ace in the match, coming two kills shy of consecutive triple-doubles.

On the season, Haworth owns 1024 assists, 264 digs, 117 kills, 56 blocks and 44 aces. She has the most aces in the Big Ten and ranks No. 4 in assists. A day after being named Big Ten Setter of the Week, the first in program history, she becomes IU’s first AVCA National Player of the Week since 1998. Haworth and the Hoosiers have two matches remaining in the regular season as she attempts to help guide the program back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010. The Hoosiers host Illinois at 5pm this evening in Wilkinson Hall.

Indianapolis to host 2029 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four
Indianapolis’ encore for hosting the Women’s Final Four in 2028? Hosting the men’s edition of the tournament a year later. The NCAA selected Indianapolis and Lucas Oil Stadium as the site for the 2029 Men’s Final Four. The dates are March 31 and April 2, 2029. The NCAA announced three other future sites for the Men’s Final Four: Detroit (2027 at Ford Field), Las Vegas (2028 at Allegiant Stadium) and North Texas (2030 at AT&T Stadium).

Indy previously welcomed the event in 1980, 1991, 1997, 2000, 2006, 2010, 2015, and 2021. The city will host the 2026 edition of the Men’s Final Four as well. The 2029 Final Four will mark Indianapolis’ tenth as a host, tying it with Kansas City for the most Final Fours hosted. Indianapolis’ history with the tournament dates back to 1940 and preliminary rounds of the championship have been played in the city on 18 occasions. The NCAA previously chose Indy as the site of first- and second-round games in 2024 and the Midwest Regional in 2025.

Indiana University Women’s Tennis signs three players for 2023
Indiana women’s tennis program has announced three to their signing class for 2023 adding Nicole Teodosescu, Sarah L’allier and Li Hsin Lin. Teodosescu (Italy) will be joining the squad in January of 2023 making an immediate impact for the Hoosiers. She has competed in nine professional 15k tournaments in the past year. She has accumulated 3 ITF Women’s ranking points on the year.

“We are very excited for Nicole to join us this January as we start our spring dual match season,” head coach Ramiro Azcui said. “She brings with her a high level of playing experience on the Women’s ITF Circuit. Her character and dedication to the sport will fit perfectly into our current team culture and help us continue to pursue our goals as a team.” 

L’allier (Canada) has won 3 ITF titles in the last year. She also was crowned the u18 National doubles champion. L’allier has 10 provincial titles. Her best Canadian singles ranking is third. L’allier’s best doubles ranking comes in at fourth in the country. Li Hsin Lin (Taiwan) is ranked top-10 in the Taiwanese junior tennis rankings. She finished runner-up in singles and doubles at the Junior ITF Grade 5 event. She has played in four professional 15k events in the past year accumulating four ITF Women’s ranking points.

“We couldn’t be more excited to officially welcome Sarah and Li Hsin to our program in the Fall of 2023,” Azcui said. “Throughout the process, we immediately recognized the intangibles we look for in recruiting with high character, work ethic, and love for the game. They bring a wealth of international playing experience both on the junior circuit as well as the Professional circuit, and they both have high goals for themselves as players. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for them here at IU!”

Indiana University Men’s Tennis signs Liam Drover-Mattinen for 2023
Indiana Men’s Tennis head coach Jeremy Wurtzman has announced the signing of the team’s newest recruit, Liam Drover-Mattinen. He will join IU in the fall of 2023 and is planning on majoring in finance. Drover-Mattinen is a highly accomplished player from Portugal Cove in Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. His current standing in the ITF junior’s rankings places him at No. 141 in the class of 2023. He is the third highest rated prospect out of Canada in the class.

Drover-Mattinen most recently was the U18 Canada national champion in doubles and the runner-up in singles. He also won the national titles in single of the U16 tournament. He was named Junior Male Athlete of the Year for Newfoundland and Labrador in 2021. Additionally, Drover-Mattinen has won four ITF doubles titles and was the J5 Halifax Singles Champion. He was a J3 ITF Singles Finalist in 2021 and 2022, a JB1 Kentucky Singles Finalist. He was on the 2021 Junior Davis Cup Team for Canada.
