#6 Indiana Women’s Basketball reaches 20 wins for the Eighth straight season The Sixth Ranked Indiana Hoosiers Women’s Basketball team the Rutgers Scarlet Knights 91-68 before the seventh largest crowd in Indiana Women’s Basketball history of 8,598 fans Sunday afternoon at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Indiana is 20-1 overall and 10-1 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers have won 20 games for the 8th straight season and the ninth time in the last 10 seasons dating back to the 2013-14 season the year before Teri Moren came to IU from Indiana State. Indiana has hit the 20-win mark on 14 occasions in program history and five of those have come before the 2009-10 season. The Hoosiers hit 20 wins in 1978-79, 1980-81, 1997-98, 2000-01 and 2008-09. This was the first regular season matchup between the two teams since December 31, 2019, when Indiana won at Rutgers 66-56.

The teams have had the last three regular season meetings have been canceled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and Rutgers was making its first trip to Bloomington since February 18, 2019, when the Scarlet Knights beat the Hoosiers 69-61. The teams met in the 2020 and 2022 Big Ten Tournaments and the Hoosiers were victorious in both of those meetings. Indiana leads the all-time series 7-6 along with 4 straight wins over Rutgers and 3-2 at home. Hoosiers finished the month of January with perfect 8-0 record. While Coach Teri Moren knows what is ahead for this team, she reminds her team to take it one game at the time. “There was a concern in practice yesterday that that the focus was not where it needed to be, and we need our defense to travel with us to Minneapolis”. Head Coach Teri Moren said after the game as the Hoosiers travel to Minnesota Wednesday Night.

Indiana got 21 points apiece from Mackenzie Holmes and Grace Berger. Sydney Parrish added 17 Points and Yarden Garzon scored 14 points on 4-6 shooting from the three-point line and 5-8 from the field with 4 rebounds along with 3 assists. 12 of the 13 Hoosiers got in the game and eight of them scored. Indiana shot very well from the field going 62% (32-51), 11-18 from three-point range for 61%, and 16-23 from the free throw line for 69%. The Hoosiers pulled down 28 rebounds, dished out 21 assists, 7 steals, 5 blocks, and committed 10 turnovers.

Rutgers fell to 9-14 on the season and 3-8 in the Big Ten. Freshman Kayline Smikle led the Scarlet Knights in scoring with 23 points on 10-23 shooting, 3-5 from three-point range and 2-2 from the free throw line along with 4 rebounds. Kai Carter added 13 points. The Scarlet Knights were 28-62 from the field for 45%, 5-12 from three-point range for 41% and 7-10 from the free throw line for 70%. Rutgers pulled down 28 rebounds, 8 assists, 6 steals, and committed 14 turnovers.

In the first quarter Rutgers got on the board first on Awa Sidibe jumper. Mackenzie Holmes scored the first four points for IU as the teams traded baskets all quarter long as Rutgers ended the quarter on 6-0 leading 22-17 after one quarter. Kai Carter opened the second quarter with jumper 45 seconds into the quarter with 8-0 run. Indiana responded with 11-0 run as the Hoosiers took the lead and did not look back. Indiana outscored Rutgers 33-20 and led 50-42 at halftime.

In the second half Rutgers got within five on a three point by Smikle but Indiana increased the lead by the end of the third quarter leading by 71-61 going into the fourth quarter and outscored the Scarlet Knights 21-19. In the fourth quarter the Hoosiers increased the lead as Rutgers cut the lead to 11 points with 7:42 left as the Hoosiers 8-0 that was sparked by six made free throws. Indiana finished the game with Henna Sandvik getting the rebound and finding Lexus Bargesser down the floor for the fastbreak bucket to end the game.

Head Coach Teri Moren is nine wins away from 400 career wins in her 20 seasons and eight wins away from 200 in her IU career. The Hoosiers are at Minnesota Wednesday night at 8pm and Sara Scalia and Lilly Meister return to their home state and Scalia faces her former team for the first time since transferring to Indiana.

Indiana Men’s Basketball gets fifth straight after taking down Ohio State by 16 Points
The Indiana Hoosiers have won five in a row after 86-70 win over the Ohio State Buckeyes Saturday Night in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall before a sold-out crowd. The Hoosiers are 15-6 overall and 6-4 in the Big Ten. Head Coach Mike Woodson returned tonight after recovering from COVID that caused him to miss Wednesday Night’s game at Minnesota. The Hoosiers were without Jordan Geronimo with a lingering leg injury and Logan Duncomb with a non-COVID related illness. Jalen Hood-Schifino led the Hoosiers with 24 points on 6-9 shooting from three-point range and 8-12 from the field along with 2-2 from the free throw line. Hood-Schifino was sick tonight, but coach Woodson says is happy how the freshman as responded to the college game. “He is professional about his approach. When I talk to him, he listens, he doesn’t bark back” Coach Mike Woodson said after the game. Trayce Jackson Davis had its third straight double-double 18 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks. Malik Reneau scored 15 points and pulled down 8 rebounds.

Freshman Kaleb Banks got 5 points and pulled down 8 rebounds in 12 minutes of action. The Freshman from Fayetteville Georgia has not played a ton of minutes, but Coach Woodson was ready to give him opportunity to play, and he took advantage of it. “My coaching staff has done a great job of bringing these guys along and he responded and did his job and I felt good putting him in there” Coach Woodson said. The Hoosiers shot 32-64 from the field for 50%, 10-20 from three-point range for 50% and 12-17 from the free throw line for 70%.

Ohio State jumped out to a 9-2 lead before Jalen Hood-Schifino hit three 3 pointers and Race Thompson added two free throws as Indiana went on an 11-0 run to lead 13-9 with 13:56 remaining in the first half. Ohio State went on 9-2 run to lead 18-15 when Hood-Schifino drained his fourth three pointer of the night as the game was tied 18-18 with 10:36 left. Ohio State hit three free throws to go up 21-18. IU went on a 9-0 run as Ohio State Head Coach Chris Holtmann was called for Technical Foul with 7:50 left in the first half after Kaleb Banks was fouled on a layup. Freshman Brice Senesbaugh hit a jumper for the Buckeyes to cut the Hoosier lead down to 4 27-23 with 7:03 left. Malik Reneau hit two free throws as the Hoosiers led 29-23. Sean McNeil scored the next six points for Ohio State to tie the game 29-29 with 5:37 left. The Hoosiers were up 31-29 after a Trayce Jackson-Davis dunk with 5:25 remaining in the first half. Zed Key hit a free throw for the Buckeyes to make 31-30 with 5:05 left when Indiana went on a 15-0 run to end the first half to lead 46-30 going into the locker room and send the sold-out Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall crowd into a frenzy.

The second half was delayed for five minutes after a metal rod fell off from off the jumbotron and nearly hit Ohio State’s Brice Senesbaugh. Once the game restarted Jackson-Davis dunked it to give the Hoosiers and 18-point lead. The Buckeyes cut the lead to 11 points with a 7-0 run trailing 49-38 with 18:07 left in the game. The Hoosiers controlled the game the rest of the way as the Buckeyes got within 13 points on two occasions. Indiana led by 19 points 76-57 with 5:17 left in the game. Malik Reneau sealed the game with a three pointer 40 seconds to give the Hoosiers by 18 points as the Buckeyes got a dunk to the end the game.

Ohio State drops 11-10 overall along with 3-7 in the Big Ten record Ohio State has lost 7 of the last eight games. Brice Senesbaugh led the Buckeyes with 23 Points and Zed Key added 12 points. Ohio State was 26-59 from the field for 44%, 5-19 from three-point range for 26% and 13-19 from the free throw line for 68%.

Trayce Jackson -Davis continues to climb the school record books he currently has 1,941 Points, 990 rebounds and a school record 235 blocks. IU leads the all-time Series 110-88, and the Hoosiers will be at Maryland tomorrow night at 9pm on ESPN2.

Indiana University Swimming and Diving sweeps Louisville in final regular season meet   Indiana swimming and diving ended its 2022-23 dual meet slate with a pair of wins on the road at No. 17/6 Louisville on Friday inside Ralph Wright Natatorium. IU set three pool records in the win. The Hoosiers men won 193-107 while the women won 155-145. The Hoosier women picked up their first win over Louisville since they beat the No. 13-ranked Cardinals in Bloomington on November 18, 2019. Both squads ended the regular season with 7-1 records in dual meet competition, with their lone losses coming against No. 2/3 Texas in October. The meet was IU’s final competition before championships season.
 
Brendan Burns performance in the 200-yard butterfly highlighted the men’s win, as the senior set a pool record at Ralph Wright Natatorium, going 1:43.28. His time beat the previous mark set by former Cardinal All-American Nicolas Albiero against Kentucky on January 25, 2020, in 1:44.00. Burns completed a triple with victories in the 200-yard backstroke (1:44.95) and 100-yard butterfly (46.19).
 
Three IU divers combined to go four-for-four in the diving events. On the women’s side, junior Anne Fowler won both the 1-meter (328.88) and 3-meter (349.88) competitions, while Andrew Capobianco secured the 1-meter (418.65) and Carson Tyler the 3-meter (431.40) wins for the men. Both scores set pool records at Ralph Wright Natatorium.

Senior Noelle Peplowski also won 3-of-3 events, sweeping the breaststroke races and adding the 200 IM. Peplowski tallied NCAA B cut times in all three events. Her sister, sophomore Anna Peplowski, won the 200 freestyle (1:47.35) and 200 backstroke (1:56.47). Indiana swept the distance freestyle events, with sophomore Mariah Denigan winning the 1,000 free (9:48.97) and 500 free (4:48.14) on the women’s side and senior Mikey Calvillo on the repeating the feat on the men’s side with times of 9:04.23 and 4:23.60, respectively.

Indiana University Wrestling adds two more to its 2023 Recruiting Class Indiana Wrestling head coach Angel Escobedo announced the signing of two more in-state recruit class to the team’s 2023 signing class on Saturday. Indiana is adding Anthony Bahl and Bryce Lowery in addition to Sam Goin and Aidan Torres. The entire group will arrive in Bloomington in the fall of 2023. Bahl is a Crown Point native and is a teammate of Sam Goin’s at Crown Point High School. Lowery hails from Indianapolis and attends Roncalli High School.

Intended Major: Public Health/Nursing–Why IU: “I chose IU because after my visit there, because of not only wrestling, but life as a wrestler really mirrors what I want in college, and I think I can grow and reach my goals there.

Indiana University Women’s Soccer announces 2023 spring schedule   Indiana women’s soccer announces their five-match Spring season schedule as they look to turn the page into a new season of training and competition on the field. The Hoosiers will begin the season on Feb. 18 where they travel to Louisville for a match against Bellarmine.  

Indiana will take the pitch at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. on Feb. 25 where they face off against IUPUI. They will head back to Grand Park on March 25 for a match against Purdue Fort Wayne. Both teams made it to the Horizon League Tournament. The Jaguars’ finished with an overall record of 9-4-6 and went 4-3-3 in conference play while the Mastodon’s were 9-4-6, 5-1-4 on the season.
 
On April 2, IU will travel to Cincinnati, Ohio where they take on the Bearcats. UC held a 7-3-7 overall record and made it to the American Athletic Conference Championship Quarterfinals. The schedule will conclude on April 15 where they take the pitch against Illinois. The Orange and Blue finished the season with an overall record of 7-7-4 and went 2-5-3 in Big Ten play.
