
Southern Indiana Bobcats kick off a New Era of Monroe County Semi Pro Football
The Southern Indiana Bobcats Semi Pro Football Team based in Bloomington will play their first ever game Saturday Night when they travel to Mount Vernon High School in Fortville Indiana to play the Indy Bison Blue in a preseason game at 7pm. Tickets are $10 for adults along with children ages 13 and up. Kids ages 6 to 12 are $ 5 and Kids 5 and under are admitted free. All tickets will be available at the gate.
The Bobcats are owned by Edgewood HS Grad Chris Brummett who is an Offensive and Defensive Lineman along with several players who played at Bloomington North, Bloomington South and Edgewood HS. The Bobcats have several players who have played at High School, College and the Semi Pro levels. Head Coach Daniel Ponce is a 20-year coaching veteran coaching from the Youth, High School and Semi Pro Level. The Bobcats have a mixture of veterans and youth as they get ready for the Blue-Collar Football League this season which will feature 10 Regular Season Games starting May 20, through August 5, as home games will be played at Edgewood HS.
Indy Bison Blue is a first-year team in name only. This organization has loaded up with a ton a talent from the Indianapolis Area so much so that they have two teams competing in two different leagues. The Bison Blue will play in the Mid Central Football League while the Bison Red will play against the Bobcats in the Blue-Collar Football League. The Bison teams scrimmaged on April 8 with the Blue winning the game 21-0. Bison Blue beat the Chicago Falcons 50-6 on April 15th in their first preseason game. The Bison Red are traveling to Danville Kentucky Saturday to play the Kentucky Insanity in their first preseason game at 6pm.
While these are two first year teams these players all know each other through there years of semi pro football playing with and against each other along preparing hard to put on a great show Saturday Night. This is the biggest preseason game in Indiana Semi Pro Football this season. Expect a lot of energy along with tons of emotion and no question that both teams have a lot to prove going into this game and the rest of the season.
Indiana University Men’s Tennis advances to Quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament
The Indiana Men’s Tennis team defeated No. 8 seed Penn State in the tournament’s opening match in dramatic fashion, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon. The host Hoosiers entered the tournament as the No. 9 seed and were coming off a 4-3 loss at Penn State this past Saturday. With the win Indiana has advanced to the tournament’s quarterfinal round.
The Hoosiers started the match off on the right foot with No. 1 and No. 2 doubles earning smooth victories to put them in front, 1-0. Indiana freshman Ekansh Kumar won at No. 6 singles as the first singles match to finish and put the Hoosiers up 2-0. Penn State won at No. 1, 4, and 5 singles consecutively to take a 3-2 lead after that. Indiana tied the match at three a piece when freshman Sam Landau came back from being down 4-1 in the third set to win at No. 3 singles, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3). Then, senior Luka Vukovic closed the deal with a win at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3. Indiana will be back in action this morning against No. 1 seed Ohio State for the first quarterfinal match of the day. The match will start at 9am at the IU Tennis Center.
Indiana University Football lands TCU Offensive Line transfer Noah Bolticoff
Indiana head coach Tom Allen stated he wanted to reinforce the offensive line through the transfer portal this spring and summer. The Hoosiers received a commitment from former TCU offensive lineman Noah Bolticoff on Wednesday evening. Bolticoff is a 6’5” 306-pound redshirt freshman who should have three more years of eligibility left.
He played in seven games over two seasons with the Horned Frogs and the final five games of the 2022 season including both the College Football Playoff games. Bolticoff was also a standout academically as he earned 2022 Second-Team Academic All-Big 12 and was a 2021-22 Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team selection. Coming out of high school Bolticoff was the best offensive guard in Kansas and the number three player in the state coming out of Rose Hill High School in Rose Hill, Kansas. Bolticoff was a three-sport athlete in high school as well as he lettered in football, basketball as well as track and field.
Indiana University Women’s Basketball players Sydney Parrish and Grace Berger to throw out Ceremonial First Pitches Indiana University Women’s Basketball players Grace Berger and Sydney Parrish are going to throw out Ceremonial First Pitches at the Indianapolis Indians games this weekend at Victory Field. Berger and Number 1 overall pick Alliyah Boston will throw the pitches tonight at 7:05pm and Parrish will throw on Sunday Afternoon at 1:35pm as the Indians finish up their six-game series with the Columbus Clippers
Grace Berger, selected as the No. 7 pick by the Fever in the 2023 WNBA Draft, will join her new teammate Boston on the mound to throw a ceremonial first pitch. The former Hoosier was a four-time first-team All-Big Ten selection, is the all-time winningest player in Indiana’s history with 118 victories from 2018-23 and is the highest WNBA draftee in IU program history. Boston, who became the first player taken No. 1 overall in Indiana Fever history in the 2023 WNBA Draft. Boston played forward at the University of South Carolina, where she led the Gamecocks to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament Final Four in each of her last three seasons along with the program’s second NCAA title in 2022, a year in which she was named the Naismith Player of the Year.
The Indians are celebrating the Indiana University women’s basketball 2022-23 Big Ten Regular Season Championship by welcoming star guard Sydney Parrish to the Vic. Parrish the lone Indiana native for IU women’s hoops this past season, will sign autographs pregame from 12:30-1 PM before throwing out the ceremonial first pitch. Every Sunday, all children 14 and under receive a free hot dog, bag of chips and Capri Sun® juice pouch with price of admission. Knot Hole Kids Club members may pick up a Rowdie poster at a table near the Standings & Lineup Board while supplies last. This is the final chance to receive the Rowdie poster. Knot Hole members must have their membership card to redeem. Knot Hole members may also run the bases after the game.
Eight Indiana University Wrestlers to compete in U.S. Open and U.S. Nationals in Las Vegas
A combination of eight current Indiana Hoosiers and Indiana’s Olympic Regional Training Center (Indiana RTC) athletes will wrestle in the 2023 U.S. Open at the Senior and U20 levels. The events Started yesterday and will go through Sunday at South Point Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. Indiana’s Cole Rhemrev (65 kg), Tyler Lillard (74 kg) and Gabe Sollars (92 kg) will compete in the U20 tournament. Cayden Rooks (65 kg), Derek Gilcher (74 kg), Donnell Washington (79 kg) and Jacob Bullock (125 kg) and Indiana RTC athlete Isaiah White (79 kg) will compete at the Senior level. All of the Hoosiers competing will wrestle in the freestyle division.
The senior freestyle tournament yesterday and continues today while the U20 freestyle tournament will be on Saturday and Sunday. At the senior level, both White and Washington were seeded in the 79 kg bracket. White was slotted at No. 12 and Washington at No. 13. Seeding adjustments will only be made if a wrestler were to withdraw from the tournament. The Senior Nationals tournament serves as a qualifying event for the 2023 Senior World Team Trials tournament and Final X. The Senior World Team Trials will take place from May 20 to May 21 in Colorado Springs, Colo. Final X will be on Saturday, June 10 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. The U20 Nationals is the qualifying event for the 2023 U20 World Team Trials. The U20 World Team Trials will be in Geneva, Ohio from June 2 to June 4.
