FREE Internet Safety Workshop
Alexandra’s Army, a Bloomington-based, All-kid-run 501(C)3 non-profit organization, is bringing a nationally renowned expert in the field, of student internet safety, to provide a FREE workshop area youth and their parents. There are two workshops for students, one for those in 3rd-5th grade and one for those in 6th-9th grade. A separate class will be offered for the parents of participants afterwards, for which there will be free supervised care for your child in a gymnasium adjacent to the classes.
When: April 29th beginning at 10am
Where: 2224 E 3rd St, Bloomington, IN 47401
The Internet Safety presentations are structured for students and parents in such a way as to facilitate conversations at home. During the workshop, our facilitator will lead the presentation for students that relate to the devices, software, websites, and applications they are using (both in school and at home), and specifically touch upon cultural implications and the potential harms that come with Internet usage.
A variety of issues are discussed, including social media, over-exposure, online predators, and cyberbullying – just to name a few. That same day, there will be an Internet Safety presentation for parents and teach them about how today’s children are interacting online, the positive and negative implications of technology, and how we can parent with more understanding of technology for our families.
All presentations are highly interactive and encourage dialogue among participants.
Monroe County Winery proposal shot down by Commissioners

Noise, traffic, and a change in the neighborhood climate were the main oppositions by those residing near the proposed location for a new winery on the northside of Bloomington, and it was enough to persuade 2 of the 3 County Commissioners during their Wednesday morning meeting. Commissioner Penny Githens supported the proposed rezoning plans, as did the Monroe County Planning Department, although both other Commissioners, Lee Jones and Julie Thomas, said no to Tim Rolfson and his hopeful Limerock Ridge Winery.
The 19-acre project was looking to break ground this summer on 19 acres on North Kinser Pike and West Bell Road, in Bloomington.
Courts uphold Indiana’s Sex Offender Registration Act
On Thursday, the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected a constitutional challenge to Indiana’s Sex Offender Registration Act (SORA). Under SORA, sex offenders who have been required to register in another jurisdiction and who live, work or study in Indiana must register as sex offenders. SORA also imposes other public safety requirements to protect children from particularly dangerous predators. The Seventh Circuit’s decision prevents the sex offenders who challenged SORA from evading its requirements.
