Indiana University Men’s Soccer Host Michigan this evening
Indiana men’s soccer (3-3-2, 0-1-1 B1G) is back at Bill Armstrong Stadium tonight as it welcomes Michigan (2-3-3, 1-0-1 B1G) in Big Ten Conference play. The Big Ten Network will broadcast the match with kickoff set for 7pm. Fans can also stream the match on foxsports.com. Tonight is Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The first 150 IU faculty/staff members in attendance will receive a concession voucher. Indiana is 3-1-1 at Bill Armstrong Stadium this season, earning four clean sheets. Junior Samuel Sarver has scored in back-to-back matches. Last Tuesday, his goal gave IU a 1-0 win over Butler. Then, on Friday, Sarver tied the match at No. 18 Michigan State at 1-1 in the 20th minute. At 3-3-2, Indiana is not unfamiliar with slow starts. In 2021, IU was 5-3-1 on Oct. 6 before recording seven straight shutout victories that month. Last season, IU was 4-2-3 on Oct. 5 and eventually finished as the national runner-up. Over the last two season, the Hoosiers are 11-3-4 in the month of October.

Michigan is 2-3-3 and coming off a 3-2 victory over Rutgers on Friday after coming back from down 2-0 at the half. The Wolverines are led by 12th-year head coach Chaka Daley, who has compiled a 92-83-37 record at UM and a 182-194-64 record in 24 seasons as a head coach. Senior midfielder Bryce Blevins and freshman forward Alex Waggoner lead the Wolverines with three goals apiece. Blevins has also recorded two assists to lead the team in points with eight. • Indiana has dominated the all-time series with Michigan, owning a 23-4-4 record against the Wolverines. Indiana is 5-0 against Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament including ties broken by penalty kicks. In IU’s run of three straight tournament titles between 2018-2020, the first two championship matches were wins against Michigan.

Indiana University Women’s Soccer remains unbeaten with 1-0 win over #18 Northwestern
The Indiana University Women’s Soccer team remains unbeaten after a 1-0-win Sunday afternoon over the Northwestern Wildcats on Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The Hoosiers are 9-0-2 on the season and 3-0-0 in the Big Ten.  Northwestern lost to Michigan on Thursday 2-0 drops their second straight game in conference play and has an overall record of 7-2-2 and 1-2 in the Big Ten. Indiana and Northwestern are tied in the series with 13 wins a piece and 3 draws. Indiana has won two in a row over the Wildcats after a 1-0 win on October 8, 2021.

Indiana has been scoring early this season and did once again on Sunday with San Diego State transfer Hope Parades getting her first goal of the season at the 1:25 mark going top left past Northwestern Goalie Reiley Fitzpatrick with Lauren Costello getting her fifth assist of the season. “It felt great to get my first goal of the season” Hope Parades said after the match. “We have an underdog mentality and we have been working hard to summer and this win gives us confidence going forward” Parades said. The Hoosiers controlled the first half outshot Northwestern 5-0 and 2-0 on shots on goal. The Wildcats Reiley Fitzpatrick made 1 save while Indiana goalkeeper Jamie Gerstenberg did not make a first half save. The Hoosiers committed 8 fouls in the first half to just three for the Wildcats. Northwestern had three corner kicks to zero for the Hoosiers and both teams were called for offsides once.

In the second half Indiana had several good lucks at the goal and were unbale to get a second. Northwestern tested Indiana Goalkeeper Jamie Gerestenberg who made two big time saves in the second half. The Junior Goalkeeper from Germany made 3 saves and its 7th all time on the Goalkeeper wins list at IU with 19 and she gets her 21st career shutout which puts her just 2 away from trying Bethany Kopel’s all-time record at 23 in which Kopel played at IU from 2017-22.  “Jamie made big saves” Indiana Head coach Erwin van Bennekom said after the match. “We should have put the game away in the second half, but it’s a great win and we have a tough schedule ahead with Ohio State on the road next” van Bennekom said. Indiana outshot Northwestern 15-6 and 7-3 in shots on goal. Northwestern goalkeeper Reiley Fitzpatrick made six saves. Indiana committed 17 fouls to just four for Northwestern. IU had seven corner kicks to six for Northwestern. Northwestern was called for offsides four times and Indiana just once. The Hoosiers who won just one Big Ten game last season and 3 total wins have turned it around. IU has scored 25 goals compared to just 11 last season and have 28 assists on the season. Indiana will travel to Ohio State on Thursday and IU hasn’t made the postseason since 2013 but the Hoosiers are not looking ahead to the post season, they are focused on Ohio State.  

Indiana University Field Hockey wins home opener over James Madison
It was an exciting Sunday for Indiana Field Hockey as the team climbed back from a 2-1 deficit in the third period to win the game, 3-2, on Sunday in their home opener. Following the win, the Hoosiers’ record now stands at 4-5 on the season. Graduate forward Sarah Charley found the back of the cage in the 11th minute to put Indiana in front 1-0. James Madison scored two goals within two minutes at the 35th and 36th-minute marks in the third period to go up 2-1 after trailing nearly the entire game to that point. Junior midfielder Meredith Lee tied the game up at 2-2 with a goal shortly after the start of the fourth period in the 48th minute. The penalty corner helped facilitate Lee’s goal with assists being credited to Sarah Charley and Sydney Keld. Indiana drew a penalty corner with 50 seconds left in the game, the play panned out with senior Meghan Dillion tapping in the game-winning goal as Indiana gained a 3-2 lead in the final seconds. Sarah Charley and Sydney Keld also assisted on the play.

Sarah Charley’s goal was her fourth of the year. Charley and Keld each notched two assists in the game. Indiana took 15 shots with 10 of them being on goal.
The Hoosiers led James Madison in penalty corners with a 7-0 advantage. Lee’s goal was the first of her career. Dillon’s goal was her second of the season.  IU will be back at home on Friday to take on Michigan at Deborah Tobias Field at 3pm.

Indiana University Volleyball falls at top ranked Wisconsin
The Indiana Volleyball team (11-4, 1-1) saw an eight-match winning streak come to an end on Sunday afternoon at the UW Field House in Madison. A tough battle in the second set, with the Hoosiers fighting off a pair of set points, wasn’t enough to topple the nation’s top-ranked team with No. 1 Wisconsin beating IU in straight sets (13-25, 23-25, 18-25) in front of a sold-out crowd. Senior outside hitter Morgan Geddes, coming off the bench, recorded a team-high 10 kills with senior middle blocker Savannah Kjolhede providing seven kills and five blocks. IU returns to action this weekend with matches in Wilkinson Hall against Iowa (Friday) and No. 2 Nebraska (Saturday).

IU out dug Wisconsin 35-33 but were bested by the hosts in every other major statistical category including a near-200 point difference in hitting percentage. The Hoosiers fall to 0-14 all-time against the nation’s top-ranked team. IU’s last three losses against No. 1 teams have come against Wisconsin. An eight-game winning streak came to an end for IU, marking the longest string of consecutive wins since the 2017 season.

The Indianapolis Colts beat Baltimore Ravens in overtime
Matt Gay kicked a 53-yard field goal in overtime to lift the Indianapolis Colts to a 22-19 win over the Baltimore Ravens at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Gay booted another 53-yard field goal with under a minute to play in regulation to tie the game at 19. Ravens’ kicker Justin Tucker missed a potential game-winning, 61-yard kick with one second left in regulation. Gay is now the first kicker in NFL history to make four field goals measuring over 50 yards in a single game.

Gardner Minshew filled in at quarterback for the Colts because starting quarterback Anthony Richardson was sidelined with a concussion this week. Minshew finished 27-of-44 for 227 yards and one touchdown. Baltimore got off to a fast start, scoring on their first possession. Quarterback Lamar Jackson capped off the 12-play, 80-yard drive with an 8-yard touchdown run. The Ravens were marching down the field on their next possession too. Rookie JuJu Brents, however, stopped the drive by forcing and recovering a Kenyan Drake fumble. The takeaway helped spark the Colts. Indianapolis tied the game on a 17-yard touchdown pass Minshew threw to running back Zack Moss. The Colts then took the lead on a 31-yard Gay field goal. The score was set up when defensive lineman Taven Bryan force Jackson to fumble. The Colts led, 10-7, at halftime. They added to their lead in the third quarter via a 54-yard field goal from Gay. The score was set up by a 32-yard punt return from Isaiah McKenzie.

The teams then swapped the lead three times. Jackson put the Ravens ahead with a 10-yard touchdown run. The Colts regained the lead on a 53-yard Gay field goal. Tucker then made a 50-yard kick to put Baltimore up, 17-16. The Ravens pinned the Colts back with a punt to the 2-yard line late in the game. Minshew then stepped out of the back of the end zone for a safety to put Baltimore on top, 19-16. Center Ryan Kelly also missed the game with a concussion. Wesley French, a second-year undrafted free agent, replaced him in the starting lineup. The Colts improve to 2-1 and now return home for back-to-back games at Lucas Oil Stadium against the Los Angeles Rams and Tennessee Titans. Kickoff next week is at 1pm and televised on Fox.

Indianapolis Indians win season finale Sunday affternoon
Nick Gonzales and Ryan Vilade drilled run-scoring doubles in a three-run fifth inning, Joe Perez launched a two-run home run in the eighth, and the Indianapolis Indians finished the season on a high note with a 5-1 win over the Rochester Red Wings on Sunday afternoon at Victory Field. Trailing 1-0 midway through the season finale, Josh Bissonette sparked the Indians (70-78, 37-37) with a leadoff double. One out later, Vinny Capra laced a game-tying single through the left side of a drawn-in infield, and Gonzales and Vilade followed with consecutive two-baggers.

Cameron Junker struck out five over 2.0 scoreless innings of relief in his Triple-A debut ahead of a scoreless frame by Travis MacGregor to keep the 3-1 lead intact. Perez then popped a 434-foot shot to left, his third in nine games with the Indians and 20th overall between Indy, Double-A Altoona (seven) and Triple-A Sugar Land (10). Bissonette took the mound for his second career pitching performance in the ninth and induced two infield popouts and a flyout to left center. The Red Wings (66-80, 32-41) plated the game’s first run on a two-out single by Matt Adams in the fourth that chased Indians starter Max Kranick. The right-hander yielded one run on three hits with two strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched.

Chase De Jong (W, 2-2) bridged the gap from Kranick to Junker with 1.1 scoreless innings. Lucas Knowles (L, 0-2) was charged with five runs on six hits in 3.0 frames. Vilade went 4-for-4, and Capra and Bissonette notched two-hit performances. The Indians won four of six games in the series and finished the campaign with a 37-37 record at Victory Field. The club will release its 2024 schedule in the coming weeks.
