Indiana Cutters Host Joliet Buccaneers as BGFL Gets Back to Work

After a week off due to the 4th of July Holiday the Indiana Cutters are back in action tomorrow night when they host the Joliet Buccaneers at 7 PM tomorrow Night at Danville High School.  The Cutters are 2-2 with home wins over the Quad City Titans and the Stateline Seminoles and looking to keep the home winning streak intact tomorrow night.  The Buccaneers are 1-3 on the season with a forfeit win over the Elkhart Panthers. The Buccaneers make the long drive from Joliet Illinois to play the Cutters for the first time. Both Teams have been in the Battle Ground Football League since 2018 but have never meet until now since the Buccaneers are in the North Division and Cutters in the South Division.  This will be the Cutters second North Division Opponent after falling to the Fort Wayne Wolverines in Week 2.  The Cutters are scheduled to play at the Elkhart Panthers in final week of the regular season. The Cutters also faced the Lake County Warriors in a preseason game in Indianapolis May 22nd as the Cutters will see every team in the BGFL this season.  Tickets are $ 5 for adults and kids 12 and under are free and will be available at the gate.

Bloomington South’s Maddix Blackwell to Play in North-South All Star Football Game

Bloomington South Graduate Maddix Blackwell will play in the Indiana North-South High School All Star Football Game tonight at Anderson University. The Game is scheduled to begin at 7 PM and will be televised on WNDY-23 in Indianapolis. Blackwell 5-10 190-pound strong safety will wear Number 18 for the South All Stars. Blackwell is going to play football at Indiana State University.  He played 4 years for the Panthers as Wide Receiver and Defensive Back. Bloomington South won 3 Sectional Championships and Regional Title. Blackwell played Basketball and Baseball at Bloomington South and was team captain for the 2020-21 Season for the Basketball Team who lost to Lawrence North in the Semistate.  

Purdue Basketball Sophomore to Be Zach Edey Playing for Canada in U-19 World Cup

Purdue Basketball Sophomore to be Zach Edey is playing for Canada in the FIFA U-19 World Cup in Latvia. Edy is 7-4 and from Toronto and played his High School Basketball in IMG Academy in Bradenton Florida. Edey has scored 54 points and pulled down 56 rebounds in 85 total minutes through four games. Edey had a double-double in all three group phase games against Lithuania, Japan and Senegal. Edey had 10 points and 8 rebounds in an 86-56 round of 16 win over Puerto Rico.  Canada is 4-0 and plays Spain in today’s quarterfinals and the winner of this game faces the winner of the Senegal-United States Game. If both Canada and United States win, they would meet in the Semifinals on Saturday and that would mean Edey would go up against Purdue current teammate Jaden Ivey and Incoming Freshman Caleb Furst who are playing for Team USA. The Other Quarterfinal Games are Lithuania versus France and Serbia vs Argentina.  The Semifinals are Saturday and the Bronze and Gold Medal Games are Sunday.

Indiana Natives in the NBA Finals

The NBA Finals Series between the Milwaukee Bucks and Phoenix Suns has two natives from the state of Indiana playing against each other and they were teammates on the 2007 Indiana All Star Team. Jeff Teague from Indianapolis Pike scored 3 points in 10 minutes for Milwaukee in Game 1 Teague played at Wake Forest and was taken in the first round of 2009 NBA Draft with the 19th overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks. East Chicago Central and Purdue Grad E’Twaun Moore Did not play in Game 1 in which Phoenix won 118-105. Moore was the 55th overall pick by the Boston Celtics in the 2011 NBA Draft. Milwaukee has Norte Dame Grad Pat Connaughton who scored 8 points in 28 minutes and was 41st overall pick of the Brooklyn Nets in 2015 NBA Draft.
