Indiana University’s Gabi Rennie Scores Late Goal as Australia Beats New Zealand 2-1

Indiana University rising sophomore Gabi Rennie scored in 91st minute but it was not enough for New Zealand falling to Australia 2-1 in the opening match of Women’s Soccer at the Tokyo Olympics Wednesday Evening in Japan.  Rennie came on a substitute in the 89th minute as Ria Percival got the assist. Australia scored first half goals from Samantha Kerr and Tameka Yallop in the first half.  New Zealand will play the United States on Saturday Evening in Tokyo 8:30 PM and Saturday Morning 7:30 AM on the US East Coast. The Americans lost to Sweden 3-0, Great Britain beat Chile 3-0, Brazil beat China 5-0, Japan and Canada played to a 1-1 draw and the Netherlands beat Zambia 10-3

Ball State Graduate Jen Gilbert Helps Canada Past Mexico in Olympic Softball Opener

2014 Ball State Graduate Jen Gilbert started in Right Field and was 0-2 at the plate and a walk as Canada beat Mexico 4-0 in the Olympic Softball Opener Wednesday Afternoon in Japan. Gilbert was born in Saskatoon Saskatchewan grew up in McKinney Texas and played for the Cardinals from 2011-14. Tokyo is the host city but the softball games are being played in Fukushima which is three and half hours north of the city.  The Olympics officially get under way tomorrow with the Opening Ceremony but competition got underway Wednesday. Canada and the United States will play at 9 am Local time this morning. Tokyo is 13 hours ahead of United States East Coast. The United States beat Italy 2-0 and Japan beat Australia 8-1. Each Team will play each other once and the then the top two teams will matchup for the Gold Medal and the next two will play for the Bronze while the last two teams will be eliminated.    

Indianapolis Native Jeff Teague Wins NBA Championship with Milwaukee Bucks

Indianapolis Pike Graduate Jeff Tegaue wins an NBA Championship after the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Phoenix Suns 105-98 in Game 6 of the NBA Finals to win the Series 4-2. Teague did not score in 2 minutes of action. Norte Dame Grad Pat Connaughton played 23 minutes and did not score for the Bucks. Its Milwaukee’s first NBA Championship since 1971. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 50 points and was named NBA Finals MVP.  E’Twaun Moore who played at East Chicago Central and Purdue did not see any minutes during the NBA Finals for the Phoenix Suns.
