Indiana University Grads Zach Apple and Blake Peroni Win Gold in Tokyo  

Indiana University Graduates Zach Apple and Blake Peroni helped the United States win the gold medal in the Men’s Swimming 4 x 100 Freestyle Relay event at the Tokyo Olympics Monday. The United States won with a time of 3:08.97 with Italy taking Sliver and Australia taking Bronze.  Peroni 25 years old and a 2018 graduate from Valparaiso Indiana swam the 3rd leg and this is his only event in Tokyo.  The 24-year-old Apple swam the final leg for Team USA, Apple is a 24-year-old 2019 graduate from Trenton Ohio and will compete in the 4x 200 Freestyle Relay and the 100 Meter Freestyle later this week. Caeleb Dressel and Bowen Becker swam the first two legs for the United States and Brooks Curry who swam in the Semifinal Heats also gets a gold medal.

Indiana Football Gets Commitment from Ohio Running Back Gi’Bran Payne for 2022

5-10 190-pound Running Back Gi’Bran Payne from LaSalle High School in Cincinnati Ohio has committed to Indiana University Football for 2022. Payne becomes the 14th player to commit and he chose the Hoosiers over Alabama, Florida, Penn State, Minnesota, Michigan, Tennessee, Norte Dame, Kentucky, Northwestern, Iowa, Purdue and Wisconsin. Payne was limited last season with injury issues rushed for 235 yards and 5 touchdowns along with 181 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns in the first three games of the season.  He becomes the 4th commit form Ohio to Join the Hoosiers in 2022 along with Tight End Ryan Miller, Offensive Tackle Carter Smith, and Linebacker Isaiah Jones.  

Lilly King Finishes 2nd In 100 Breaststroke Semifinals

2019 Indiana University Graduate Lilly King finished 2nd in the semifinals of the Women’s 100 Meter Breaststroke at the Tokyo Olympics Monday. King and Evansville Reitz HS graduate had a time 1:05.40 with Tatjana Schoemaker of South Africa winning with a time of 1:05.07. Lydia Jacoby a 17-year-old from Seward Alaska won her heat with a time of 1:05:72 becoming the first Alaskan to compete in Olympic Swimming. King won this event in the 2016 Rio Olympics with an Olympic Record time of 1:04.93. King also won gold in the 4×100 Medley Relay. The Finals are scheduled for 11:17 AM Local Time this morning in Tokyo.  2019 IU Graduate Bailey Anidson finished 6th in her heat with a time 2:12.52 in the 200 Individual Medley. The Smith Falls Ontario Canada Native placed 18th overall and will not advance to the semifinals as the top 16 qualify on time.   

Ball State Graduate Jen Gilbert Hits Home Run as Canada Beats Italy in Softball

2014 Ball State Graduate Jen Gilbert hit a home run to help Canada beat Italy 8-1 in the final pool play game at the Tokyo Olympics Monday. Gilbert through her first four games went 0-7 with 2 walks. Against Italy she went 1-3 with a home run. Gilbert started in right field 4 of the 5 games for Canada and was a substitute in the 1-0 Loss to Japan. She is 1-10 at the plate with 2 walks a run, an RBI and Home Run in her 5 games. Canada finished 3-2 in Pool Play and will play Mexico for the Bronze Medal 1 PM Local time this afternoon. The Canadian Water Polo Team lost to Spain 14-10 in their 2nd pool play game dropping to 0-2. 2014 Indiana University Graduate Shae (Fournier) La Roche scored her first 2 goals of the Olympics for Canada who will play South Africa at 3:30 PM Local Time Wednesday.
