Today’s Local Sports Headlines are brought to us by . . .

Fall High School Sports Underway in Indiana

Monday was the first day that practice got underway for all Fall High School Sports in Indiana except for Girl’s Golf which got underway last Friday and were allowed to have their first contest Monday. Unified Flag Football, Girls and Boys Cross Country, Girls and Boys Soccer Volleyball which began practice Monday can all have their first contest on August 14th.  Football which started non-contact practice Monday can have contact on Thursday August 5th.  JV Football plays its first regular season game Thursday August 19th and Varsity Football starts Friday August 20th.

Ali Patberg Hosting Skills Clinic August 15th

Indiana University Women’s Basketball player Ali Patberg will host the Ali Patberg skills clinic on Sunday August 15th at the Twin Lakes Recreation Center in Bloomington. Cost is $ 40 to join for a two-hour session. Spots still remain for grades 8-12 from 5-7 pm. The Session for Grades 4-7 is sold out. For More info or to register visit worldwidehoopstraning.com

Brian Lewis Named IHSAA Assistant Commissioner

Jasper Native Brian Lewis has been named Indiana High School Athletic Assistant Commissioner.  The 37-year-old Lewis will join the IHSAA after 15 years in secondary education. He has been the Athletic Director at Jasper High School for the last 3 years. He has worked at Monrovia, Evansville Harrison, Columbia City and North Vermillion HS. Lewis Graduated from Jasper HS and was member of the 2001 Class 4A State Championship Football Team. Lewis has his Batchelor’s Degree from Indiana State in 2006 and Master’s from Oakland City University in 2011. He is the Grandson of the Late former IHSAA Commissioner C. Eugene Cato (1983-1995).

Zionsville Little League Advances to Softball World Series

The Zionsville Little League is headed to the Little League Softball World Series after losing in the championship game to the Daniel Boone Little League Team from Columbia Missouri 6-0. Normally teams from both the United States and overseas compete but due to the COVID-19 travel restrictions, the 10-team field for this year’s tournament will be for United States teams only with the Champions and the Runner Up of each region going to Greenville North Carolina August 11th-18th. Zionsville will be in the Jessica Mendoza bracket and will face teams from Muskogee Oklahoma, Las Vegas Nevada, Robbinsville, New Jersey and Salisbury North Carolina. The Jennie Finch Bracket will have teams from Columbia Missouri, Orangeburg, New York, Chesterfield Virginia, Robinson, Texas and Cave Creek Arizona. The Top Four Teams in each bracket will advance to the Quarterfinals August 16th, Semifinals August 17th. The Championship and 3rd place games will be held August 18th.
