Indianapolis 500 Broadcaster Bob Jenkins Passes Away at Age 73

Longtime Auto Racing broadcaster Bob Jenkins passed away at age 73 Monday. Jenkins was the radio voice of the Indianapolis 500 starting his career in 1979 with IMS Radio Network and quickly became popular with his booming baritone voice and easygoing style. Jenkins called Indy Car, NASCAR, and Formula One for other networks including ABC, ESPN, NBC Sports Network and its predecessor Versus. He was a central figure in ESPN’s racing coverage, anchoring NASCAR on ESPN from 1979-2000. Jenkins retired from broadcasting at the end of the 2012 Indy Car Season to care for his wife Pam who died of brain cancer October 25th, 2012. Jenkins came back to the television booth in 2013 for a brief time and was one of the primary Public Address Announcers for the Speedway.  He was Born in Richmond Indiana September 4th 1947 and grew up in nearby Liberty Indiana, He graduated from Short HS in 1965 and from Indiana University in 1969.

Indiana Field Hockey Freshman Invited to New Zealand Under 18 Camp

Indiana University Field Hockey Incoming Freshman Goalkeeper Arabella Loveridge has been invited to attend New Zealand’s Under 18 National Camp. One of 37 players selected the annual under 18 performance camp is partnered with the Performance Network which is a national decentralized program geared towards the development of players based on current and future performance. Loveridge is a native of Point Chevalier New Zealand was the co-captain of the diocesan school for girls. Loveridge was named goalkeeper of the year in 2018 and 2019. The Hoosiers will travel to Ball State for a scrimmage on Friday August 20th at 1 PM.  

Brownsburg Little League Falls in Great Lakes Region Opener

The Brownsburg Little League Baseball team fell to the Taylor North Little League from Taylor Michigan 9-1 Monday Afternoon at the Little League Great Lakes Region Tournament in Whitestown Indiana. Michigan jumped out to 3-0 lead in the top of the first and never looked back. Michigan scored 2 runs in the top of the 4th before Brownsburg got its only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Michigan added 2 runs in the top of 7th inning and had 13 hits for the game along with 2 errors. Brownsburg had just 3 hits and 2 errors. Brownsburg is 0-1 and will the Hamilton West Side Little League from Hamilton Ohio in an elimination game this morning at 10 AM.

Indiana Pacers Fall to New York Knicks In NBA Summer League Opener

The Indiana Pacers fell to the New York Knicks 94-86 in the NBA Summer League at Thomas and Mack Center on the UNLV campus in Las Vegas Monday. The Pacers were to play the Washington Wizards Sunday evening but that game was postponed because the Wizards did not have enough players due to COVID-19 contract tracing protocols. The Knicks were not scheduled to play today after losing to Toronto 89-79 on Sunday. The Pacers were led in scoring by Duane Washington Jr with 23 points, Oshae Brissett who was on the Pacers Roster last year added 22 points and Chris Duarte the 13th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft from Oregon added 13 points. The Knicks were led by Immanuel Quickley with 32 points, Obi Toppin who played at Dayton scored 22 and Miles McBride added 14.  The Pacers return to action tonight when they take on the Atlanta Hawks 6 PM Eastern Time and the game will be broadcast on NBA TV.
