Bloomington accident claims the life of motorcycle driver
An early morning accident killed the 34 year-old driver of a motorcycle dead on Sunday. The 2005 Honda motorcycle collided from the rear with an SUV at the intersection of Kirkwood and Walnut streets in Bloomington. The driver was thrown from the bike after hitting the SUV while it was taking a left-hand turn onto Kirkwood, westbound. Emergency personnel transported the individual to IU Health Bloomington, but life-saving efforts failed. The investigation is still underway, but witnesses to the incident told authorities that it appeared as if the motorcycle was driving at a high rate of speed. There were no other serious injuries reported from the accident.

Former Colts enshrined by the HOF
Former Indianapolis Colt running Back Edgerrin James was inducted into the Canton, Ohio Football Hall of Fame this past weekend in a delayed ceremony as a member of the Class of 2020. Much like he did while on the field, he stole the show, delivering a speech with the message to not judge one by his or her appearance; as was often done of him throughout his collegiate and professional career. James finished his 11-year NFL career in 2009, with 12,249 total rushing yards and 80 touchdowns. Legendary Colts quarterback Peyton Manning was also honored this past weekend as a member of the Class of 2021. Both ceremonies were held this weekend, due to the postponement of last year’s annual event due to the global health emergency.

St. Joseph’s County settles on wrongful imprisonment case
Former St. Joseph County Jail inmate Ian McQueen has settled with County Commissioners for $12,500 for wrongfully being held in jail for 43 days ($290.70/day). While he may not be innocent of the charges, he had already been sentenced for the same crime in nearby Elkhart County. McQueen had pled guilty to stealing a car in Mishawaka. The duplicate warrant in St. Joseph’s County was served by Sheriffs in November of 2020, and the jail was obligated to hold McQueen until his attorney foiled a motion for dismal 43 days later. In an unrelated case, the same county settled another matter of keeping an inmate in jail 60 days past his sentence due to what was reported as a software glitch. Apparently, two months of being wrongfully locked up in the St. Joseph Jail is worth $20,000, or about $333/day.
