Bloomington South’s Harper Eakin Makes the “B” Finals of the 500 Yard Freestyle  Bloomington South Senior Harper Eakin will compete in the B Final of the 500 Yard Freestyle after she finished 14th in the prelims with a time of 5:07.14 Friday Night at the 52nd annual IHSAA Girls Swimming and Diving State Finals. The Top 8 in each event qualified for the “A” Finals followed by the next 8 in the “B” Finals which will begin at 1 PM this afternoon. The 17th and 18th place finishers are on standby if somebody is unable to compete in the finals and will take their place.  The Panthers 400 Yard Freestyle Relay Team of Freshman Mia Bishop, Seniors Leona Wang and Harper Eakin and Junior Emily Wang finished 22nd with a time of 3:40.45 and did not advance 

Edgewood Senior Elliana Vagedes finished 24th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.57 and 28th in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.37 and did not advance in either event.  The Diving Preliminaries will get underway at 9 AM this morning as Bloomington South Sophomore Hadley Laughlin will be 16th in the order as 32 divers compete. The top 20 advance to the Semifinals and the Top 16 will compete in the Finals this afternoon at 1 PM.  Carmel is looking for their 40th Consecutive State Championship and 41st overall had the top time in 4 Individual and one relay during the 11 events held Friday night. Fishers had the top time in two individual events and 1 relay. Zionsville had a top relay time while Carrol Fort Wayne and Concord had a top time in one event each.  

Bloomington South Battles Floyd Central for the Class 4A Girls Basketball Regional Championship      The Bloomington South Panthers battle the Floyd Central Highlanders for the Class 4A Regional Championship this afternoon at 4 PM at Bedford North Lawrence HS with the Winner Advancing to the Semi State Next Saturday.  The Panthers are 19-5 on the season for Head Coach Larry Winters with an offensive average of 55.3 points and defensive average of 40.1 points per game. The Panthers beat Bloomington North 54-45 and Terre Haute South 62-49 to win the Terre Haute North Sectional. Bloomington South has won 12 Sectional Championships and went back-to-back for the first time since 2009-10 and the third time in school history with 1982-83 the other. The Panthers won the Regional Title last year for the first time since 1987 and are looking for their fourth in program history after winning the regional for the first time in 1982. 

 Floyd Central is 22-3 on the season as the Highlanders average 52.1 points offense and give up 35 points on defense. Floyd Central beat Jeffersonville 66-56, Seymour 55-20 and New Albany 52-28 to win the New Albany Regional.  Floyd Central won their eight sectional title and like Bloomington South they went back-to-back for the just second time in school history with first coming in 1992-93. Floyd Central is looking for their second regional title with the only one coming in 2010 at Bedford North Lawrence. This will be the first time that the two programs have ever met in the State Tournament. 

17 Monroe County Wrestlers are Competing at the Boys Wrestling Semi State at the Ford Center in Evansville  17 Boys Wrestlers will represent Monroe County this morning that Semi State at the Ford Center in Evansville Hosted by Evansville Reitz at 10 AM Bloomington Time which is 9 AM Evansville Time. The top four in each weight class will advance to State Finals next Friday and Saturday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. You have to win your first two matches in order to make the top four and advance to State.  Bloomington South won the Sectional and Regional and with 11 wrestlers competing in Evansville the Panthers have a chance at the team title which would be their 6th overall and first since 2013. The Monroe County schools had 21 individuals competing on Saturday and at the end of the event 17 made it through as Bloomington South advanced all 11 individuals and produced 6 Regional Champions. Bloomington North and Edgewood advanced three individuals each. 

Bloomington South’s Nick Russell-106 Pounds, Jaxsen Jean-113 Pounds, Josiah Stanton-120 Pounds, Brian Conley-138 Pounds, Armin Pratt-144 Pounds and Wyatt Cooksey-157 Pounds all won individual titles. Other Regional Champions include Nolan Mullins of Jasper 126 Pounds, Owen Blessinger of Southridge-132 Pounds, Hunter Banet of Floyd Central-150 Pounds, Sam May of Terre Haute South 175 pounds and his classmate Noah Fields-175 Pounds, Spencer Fain of Floyd Central-190 Pounds, Devyn Orman of Northview-215 Pounds and Griffin Osburn of Terre Haute North-285 Pounds. 

Bloomington North Ryan Watkins-113 Pounds along with his classmate Trae Hopkins-144 Pounds, Edgewood’s John Orman-126 Pounds and classmate Cayleb Stephens-150 Pounds, Bloomington South’s Denny Allgood-175 Pounds along with teammate Mason Grubb-215 Pounds all finished in second place in their respective weight classes.  Bloomington South’s Jude Pratt-126 Pounds, Mark Hand-132 Pounds and Gerardo Hernandez-Ibarra-150 Pounds along with Bloomington North’s Miguel Tedrow-165 Pounds and Edgewood’s Lincoln Getts-285 pounds all finished in third place in their respective weight class.

Indiana University Softball Earns Friday Run Rule over Pacific Indiana picked up its second win of the weekend on Friday with another run rule as it defeated Pacific, 8-0, in five innings at the Littlewood Invitational in Farrington Stadium. The Hoosiers are now 6-2 on the season and 2-1 on the weekend.

Indiana opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Avery Parker hit a 2-run home run over the center field wall to make it a 2-0 game. Just a few at bats later, Brooke Mannon singled through the left side and brought Jada Ellison home to extend the lead to 3-0. Jasmine Reyes worked out of a jam with two Pacific runners on base in the top of the fourth inning. No damage was done and the score remained 3-0. The Hoosier bats picked up back up in the bottom of the fourth with back-to-back doubles by Aly VanBrandt and Alex Cooper bringing in two RBIs each. With a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth, Indiana only needed one more run to close the book on Pacific. Cassidy Kettleman singled through the left side before Peyton Drummond tripled to left field and secured an 8-0 win.  

Drummond’s triple was the first of her collegiate career. Parker’s home run was the fourth of the season. Indiana has won six of its last seven games with five coming by run rule. Reyes picked up her first win of the season in 4.0 inning showing while only allowing three hits and striking out three batters. Three Hoosiers are hitting above .500 through the first eight games: Alex Cooper (.571), Aly VanBrandt (.538) and Ellie Goins (.524). Indiana will return to the diamond with a game at noon (ET) today against Nevada.

Indiana University Women’s Tennis sweeps Bellarmine Indiana women’s tennis continued its win-streak at home with a 4-0 victory against Bellarmine at the Indiana Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.  Sophomore Nicole Sifuentes made her season debut for Indiana as she fought in singles play to force a tie-breaker set at singles No. 6, which was ultimately taken by Bellarmine. Additionally, the pair got it started for the second set before IU clinched the win. Last season, Sifeuntes went 8-9 overall.  Freshman Alessandra Teodosescu and freshman Hi’ilani Williams contributed to the effort when they took doubles No. 1 (6-1), followed by junior Elisabeth Dunac and junior Li Hsin Lin fighting to clinch doubles No. 2 (6-4) to secure the doubles point for Indiana (7-0), putting them on the board 1-0. 

It was a strong start to singles when Dunac swept her Bellarmine (2-9) opponent to take the first set, 6-0, at singles No. 3. She was able to continue her momentum throughout the contest when she gave Indiana another point to give the home team the two-point edge. She allowed Hurley of Bellarmine to win just one game in their face-off (6-0,6-1).  Freshman Ameia Sorey fought hard to take the first set of her singles match at singles No.1, pushing the score to 7-5 as it continued into the second set. Williams followed with a closely won set of her own at singles No. 5, also forcing the score of 7-5. A.Teodosescu found power at singles No. 2, giving IU the 3-0 edge. Senior Nicole Teodosescu finished it up at singles No.4 to ultimately secure the 4-0 win and continue the Hoosier’s undefeated season.  Indiana will hit the road heading to Louisville, Ky. for Sunday’s matchup against the Louisville Cardinals, starting at 12 p.m. The match can be followed via live stats.

Indiana University Baseball Drops the Season Opener to North Carolina An error and a misjudged fly ball turned a routine inning into a six spot for No. 11 North Carolina (1-0, 0-0 ACC) in the sixth inning on Friday evening at Boshamer Stadium. The Tar Heels rattled off three extra-base hits in the frame to beat the Indiana Baseball team (0-1, 0-0 B1G), 9-4, in the 2026 season opener. Against All-American right-handed pitcher Jason DeCaro, the Hoosiers did a great job of working counts early in the ballgame. Sophomore outfielder Cole Decker opened the scoring in the top of the sixth with a two-run single up the middle – the first hit of his young career. Sophomore first baseman Jake Hanley did damage in the ninth with a two-run double to the gap in right-center field. IU’s young offense, which featured six sophomores in the starting lineup, walked nine times and had five base hits. Redshirt junior outfielder Ayden Crouse had a pair of base knocks in his IU debut. However, the Hoosiers finished the night just 2-for-19 with runners on base and 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position. IU left 10 runners on the base paths in the first contest of the year.

Graduate student left-handed pitcher Tony Neubeck was steady in his season debut. The veteran southpaw worked four scoreless frames with a pair of strikeouts. Graduate student right-handed pitcher Michael Sarhatt came out of the bullpen to record the final eight outs. Graduate student right-handed pitcher Reagan Rivera (L, 0-1) was tagged with the defeat. Redshirt freshman catcher Brayden Ricketts and freshman outfielder Cal Gates each made their collegiate debuts for the Hoosiers on Friday evening. Gates walked in the ninth and later came around to score on the Hanley double. Sophomore third baseman Will Moore was the fourth player to record a hit for IU on the night. Sophomore outfielder Hogan Denny reached three times on three walks. IU is back in action this afternoon to wrap up the series against North Carolina. The two sides will play a doubleheader beginning at Noon ET in Chapel Hill. The second game will start an hour after the first one concludes. Senior right-handed pitcher Jackson Bergman is set to get the ball in the first game of the day.

Indiana University Field Hockey Lands Seven NFHCA Scholars of Distinction The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced its 2025 National Scholars of Distinction honorees across collegiate field hockey.  There were seven Indiana Field Hockey student-athletes selected for the prestigious honor.  In order to receive this award, qualifying student-athletes had to maintain a 3.9 or higher GPA in the fall semester.   This is Morgan Qualls second consecutive season earning the award. This is a first-time recognition for the six remaining Hoosiers.
