Man arrested for holding Bloomington worker against her will
Bloomington Police responded to an incident on Liberty Drive on Monday afternoon, in which a 48 year-old man reportedly locked a 37 year-old worker in her office and threatened her life. The suspect was a client at the office in question, which provides services for those challenged with mental illness. The employee was able to notify colleagues of her danger through an email. Police were successful in defusing the situation without any injuries, and the unnamed suspect has been charged with Confinement and intimidation.
new 17-home development approved by Bloomington planning Commission
The Bloomington planning Commission has approved the request of land-owner Darlene Meyer to subdivide and develop a parcel of land on Bloomington’s East Side. The near-5-acres of land which sit on Moores Pike between Smith Road and State Road 446, will now become host to 17 single-family homes.
Sue Ellsperman announces retirement date from Ivy Tech Presidency
Former Indiana Lieutenant Governor and current Ivy Tech Community College President Sue Ellspermann has announced that she will retire at the end of her contract, officially stepping down June 30th of 2025. Ellsperman has led Ivy Tech since 2016. She is looking forward to spending more time with her 10 grandchildren.
SR 45 Road Closure
Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Ragle, Inc. is scheduled to close State Road 45 over Indian Creek on or soon after Monday, June 24, to begin a bridge rehabilitation project in Monroe County. The closure will take place just east of South Darrell Drive and is expected to take up to ten weeks, weather permitting. Crews will begin to place signage in the area prior to the start of construction. During the closure, motorists should use the official detour route which follows S.R. 445 to I-69 to S.R. 45.
Free Intro to Semiconductors class at Ivy Tech
Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington is hosting an Introduction to Semiconductors training session July 1-3 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This free, three-day workshop is designed to open doors to local careers in the emerging field of semiconductors. The training is open to the public and space is limited to 16. Interactive workshops will be led by Ivy Tech faculty, including building robots, programming automation equipment, soldering, and circuit boards. Participants will learn the fundamentals of the semiconductor industry and hear from local industry representatives and hiring managers.

Splash Pad at Karst Farm Park reopened
The Social Media Page for Monroe County Parks announced the re-opening of the Splash Pad at Karst Farm Park. Its open to the public Friday-Monday and by reservation Tuesday through Thursday.
