Lilly King Books her spot on the United States Olympic Swimming Team for the Third Time
Five-time Olympic medalist Lilly King punched her ticket to the 2024 Paris Games, her third Olympics, Monday night at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. King won the 100-meter breaststroke at U.S. Olympic Team Trials with a time of 1:05.43, the only time under 1:06. It also ranks as the fourth fastest time in the world this season. Indiana University’s all-time leading medal-winner among women’s athletes, King becomes IU’s first women’s swimmer to reach a third Olympics. King also joins Amanda Beard and Brendan Hansen as the third American swimmer to make three Olympic teams in breaststroke.

Anna Peplowski finished fifth in the women’s 200-meter freestyle final with a time of 1:57.04. Blake Pieroni took sixth in the men’s 200 free in 1:46.09, tying his best time since 2018.  Both Peplowski and Pieroni finished outside of 4×200-meter relay Olympic qualification (top four) but are expected to reach the final Team USA rosters as top-six finishers when the final 26-man team are announced.

Lilly King is the top qualifier in Monday night’s 100-meter breaststroke final with a time 85 hundredths quicker than the No. 2 seed. Blake Pieroni and Anna Peplowski will automatically qualify for the Paris Games with top-four finishes in the men’s and women’s 200-meter freestyle final, respectively. The top two finishers will represent Team USA individually, while the No. 3 and No. 4 finishers would compete on the 4×200-meter freestyle relay in Paris. The Nos. 5 and 6 finishers could also qualify, but USA Swimming would not select those athletes until later in the week.

Indiana University Football lands North Carolina Linebacker Jamari Farmer for 2025
Indiana added North Carolina based linebacker Jamari Farmer to its 2025 class on Monday. Farmer announced his commitment to IU on his X account. “From the moment I stepped onto Memorial Stadium, I felt the undeniable energy and passion that defines Hoosier football,” Farmer wrote.

The Mooresville, N.C. product visited IU a week ago. Farmer has been highly productive at Mooresville H.S. (Mooresville, N.C.).  He has collected 258 career tackles, 49 tackles for loss and 13 sacks in 26 varsity games. His 130 tackles and 26 tackles for loss in 2023 earned him Greater Metro 4-A Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors last season as well as Iredell County Player of the Year from the Statesville Record & Landmark.

The 6-foot and 218-pound Farmer does not currently appear in the 2025 rankings.  He also had offers from Cincinnati, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Charlotte, and others. Prior to the commitment by Farmer, Indiana’s 2025 class ranked 52nd nationally and 16th in the Big Ten according to the ON3 Average.  The Hoosiers have had two decommits in the last week, Chris McCorkle and Travares Daniels.  Farmer put IU back on the board with a linebacker in the class after losing Daniels.

Six Indiana University Baseball Players invited to the MLB Draft Combine
Ahead of the 2024 MLB Draft; six Hoosiers have been invited to the MLB Draft Combine. It is the last major gathering of eligible prospects in front of the 30 MLB franchises before July’s draft on All-Star weekend. The combine will be held at Chase Field in Phoenix. The Indiana Baseball team will have six players in attendance, the most of any team in the conference. IU players will make up half of the Big Ten prospects that were invited to the five-day showcase started Tuesday and goes through Sunday, the MLB Draft Combine will allow players to participate in performance assessments, workouts and strength tests for scouts.

Juniors Luke Sinnard, Carter Mathison, Brock Tibbitts, Josh Pyne, and Nick Mitchell will join draft-eligible sophomore Connor Foley at the combine. Foley, one of the fastest rising names up draft boards, is eligible for the draft this season due to his age. He is currently No. 114 among MLB’s Top-200 Draft Prospects. Despite missing the entire 2024 season due to injury, Sinnard has continued his rehab in Bloomington. He was an all-conference and all-region performer in 2023 while setting a single-season program record for strikeouts (114). The MLB has Sinnard at No. 184 on its Top-200 Draft Prospects list.

Mathison, Tibbitts, Pyne and Mitchell all helped IU to a fantastic offensive season in 2024, setting a team program single-season record in doubles (140). Mathison (All-Big Ten Tournament Team) and Tibbitts (All-NCAA Knoxville Regional Team) were productive players in the postseason while Pyne and Mitchell reached base at an electric rate for the Hoosiers in 2024. The 2024 MLB Draft is set to take place from July 14-16 in Arlington, Texas during All-Star weekend. Since head coach Jeff Mercer has taken over the program, 10 different players have been picked in the top-10 rounds. Craig Yoho (RHP, Milwaukee) and Phillip Glasser (SS, Washington) were IU’s two players selected in last year’s proceedings.

Edgewood Graduate Luke Hayden Transfers to LSU for Baseball
The pipeline from Terre Haute, Indiana, to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is not done providing for Jay Johnson and the LSU Tigers. LSU just landed another player from the Indiana State Sycamores thanks to the transfer portal. Luke Hayden is a 6-foot-1, 195-pound, right-handed pitcher from Bloomington, Indiana and Graduated from Edgewood High School. He spent his first two collegiate seasons with the Indiana Hoosiers before transferring to Indiana State to play this Spring.

Hayden finished the season with a 7-2 record and a 3.81 ERA. He pitched a total of 78 innings and struck out 91 hitters while walking 47. He will join his former teammate Luis Hernandez who transferred from Indiana State to Baton Rouge. Those two could form a battery in the same way they did for the Sycamores. So far Johnson has done an incredible job landing some great players out of the portal. If he can get a guy like Griffin Herring back as well next year could be special.
