
Braun releases property tax reform plan for Indiana
Indiana US Senator and gubernatorial candidate Mike Braun released his four-pillar proposal to help reform the state property tax system, a top concern among Hoosiers. If elected, Braun plans to immediately reduce property taxes, introduce a cap to limit future tax growth, introduce more transparency on state tax collections, and reform the tax referendum process. In 2023, Indiana property tax bills increased more than 18% from the previous year, on average.
Indiana’s Education Scholarship Account
The deadline to apply for Indiana’s Education scholarship account is approaching. The program provides monetary scholarships to students with disabilities that can be used toward educational resources to best meet their learning needs. Funds can be used for pre-approved educational programs, therapies, services, tuition and fees at private schools, curricular materials, and other expenses related to the student’s education. Indiana Lieutenant Governor debate scheduled
The Democrat and Republican candidates for Indiana Lieutenant Governor will face off in a live debate at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Purdue Extension Building on the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The hour-long program will be moderated by Inside Indiana Business host Gerry Dick. Hoosier Ag Today is planning to stream the event. Tonya Hudson, the Libertarian candidate for Lieutenant Governor is not listed to appear.
Meteor viewing party at Paynetown on August 10th
In celebration of Monroe Lake’s 60th Anniversary, the Paynetown Recreation Area will offer Telescope Viewing and Meteor Watching from 9:15 to 10:30 pm on Saturday August 10th, weather permitting. Bring a blanket or chair to lay back and watch for “shooting stars”. the annual Perseid Meteor Shower will be peaking on Monday night the 12th.
Indianapolis man sentenced to 45 years for attempted murder of Police Officer
28 year-old Joshua A. Burton, of Edinburgh, Indiana has been sentenced to 45 years in prison for attempted murder of a police officer. Officers had pulled Burton over in December of last year for multiple vehicle citations, when he opened his door and rushed toward the officers waving an AR15 style weapon, trying to shoot Edinburgh Police Officer Clayton Embry. Thankfully, the weapon locked up and did not fire.
Purple Rain to be played at Buskirk for 40th anniversary
Mark your calendars for Friday September 6th as Bloomington’s Buskirk-Chumley Theater will host a movie night to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Purple Rain. 7pm will be the starting time for Prince’s timeless classic, which introduced such hit songs as When Doves Cry and Let’s Go Crazy.
