20 year-old IU student dies in Lake Tahoe
A 20-year-old Indiana University Student and IU Athletic broadcaster is dead after drowning at Whale Beach at Lake Tahoe, Nevada. Owen McDonough had been swimming with friends to offshore rocks when he was overcome by rough waters and disappeared under the surface. Medics and bystanders unsuccessfully attempted to resuscitate him. McDonough was a student broadcaster with IU Hockey, working on pregame, postgame, intermission shows, and color commentary this past season.

Bloomington Utilities offering extended assistance
The City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) has raised the income threshold for its financial assistance program offered to customers in partnership with the South Central Community Action Program (SCCAP). A customer may now qualify if the household is at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Guideline. Customers may qualify more than once per year, and other options such as payment plans are also available. Information can be found at bloomington.in.gov/utilities/residential.

Indiana State Police Seeks Recruits for the 87th Recruit Academy
The Indiana State Police is accepting applications for the 87th Recruit Academy for traditional and lateral applicants. Those interested in beginning a career as an Indiana State Trooper must apply online at IndianaTrooper.com. The website provides a detailed synopsis of the application process and information on additional career opportunities with the Indiana State Police. Applications must be submitted electronically by Sunday, October 13th.

Search underway for man missing in Grandview Lake (Bartholomew County)
Indiana Conservation Officers are searching for a 70-year-old man last seen in the water at Grandview Lake. The search is using boats and side-scan sonar. Shortly after 11am yesterday, responders were notified the man was in the water near his boat when he went under and did not resurface. He was not believed to have been wearing a lifejacket at the time of the incident. The identity of the man is being withheld pending family notification. We will update this story as more information becomes available.

Attorney General Todd Rokita invites Hoosiers to visit Indiana Unclaimed booth at State Fair 
The Indiana Attorney General’s Office is inviting Hoosiers attending the Indiana State Fair to meet the team, learn about the office, and reunite with their unclaimed property. The Indiana State Fair runs from August 2nd to the 18th and the booth is located in the Mercantile Building. It will be staffed from 9am-8pm. when Hoosierswith information on can be assisted  with unclaimed property and provided information to help protect themselves and their family from ID theft and other scams. 

IU teams up with refugee organization
Indiana University has developed a relationship with Exodus Refugee Immigration, an organization that provides refugees with employment opportunities as they begin a new chapter in their lives. Since 2022, IU has employed more than 60 of their clients. Many of the refugees come to Bloomington through the U.S. Department of State resettlement program, and all have fled their countries because of war, violence, persecution, or social group membership. IU has become the largest employer of Exodus clients in Bloomington, and has recently received the Exodus Employment Partner of the Year award.
