Mitchell man charged with child exploitation and other offences
Troopers with the Indiana State Police Bloomington District and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC) arrested a Mitchell man on charges of child exploitation, possession of child pornography and drug charges. The investigation by the Indiana State Police ICAC began when five cybertips were received from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The cybertips and subsequent investigation by Master Trooper/Detective Kevin Getz and Trooper Robert Whyte ultimately led to the arrest of Brennan D. Winkler, 26 years old from Mitchell, for One Count of Child Exploitation, Twenty Counts of Possession of Child Pornography, One Count of Possession of Methamphetamine, and One County Possession of Paraphernalia.

Troopers Whyte and Getz were assisted by Troopers Sam Gillespie and Ben Burris along with representatives from the Lawrence County Prosecutors Office and Indiana Department of Child Services. Anyone having any information related to crimes against children is encouraged to contact their local law enforcement agency or visit the NCMEC website at http://www.missingkids.com/home and find the link to make a CYBERTIPLINE report. All criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

Investigation into local Catalytic Converter thefts concludes with additional arrest
28-year-old Amber Atchinson-Royston has been arrested on charges of theft and criminal mischief after Indiana State Police conclude their investigation into a local ring of theft. The investigation began in May after the March theft reporting of two catalytic converters off of two motorhomes, totaling in $3000 of replacement and repair. Atchinson-Royston was involved in the thefts along with three males, Austin Conn, Adam Brewer, and Uriah Stickney, who all admitted to their parts in the thefts during police interviews.

Bloomington hosts black history 101 mobile museum
The City of Bloomington Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration Commission invites community members to visit the Black History 101 Mobile Museum on September 11 from 9 a.m. to noon in Council Chambers at City Hall (401 N. Morton Street).  Admission is free and no registration is required.

Founded by Dr. Khalid el-Hakim, the Black History 101 Mobile Museum is an award-winning collection of original artifacts of Black memorabilia dating from the trans-Atlantic slave trade era to hip-hop culture. His talk “The Truth Hurts: Black History and Healing the Racial Divide” at the City’s virtual 2021 MLK celebration in January 2021 may be viewed here.  Featuring objects and memorabilia related to politics, science, education, music, and sports, among other categories, the interactive exhibition has been shared in more than 500 non-museum spaces in over 40 states in an effort to expand accessibility.  El-Hakim will host the exhibition in person and engage with visitors.
