Lawrence County Commissioners issue statement on Covid and self-responsibility

In sharp contrast to what is being done in Monroe County, the Lawrence County Commissioner issued a statement, not unlike one recently issued by the Brown County Commissioners, relating to individual health care practices. Here is the statement:

The new CDC guidelines contradict prior guidance and may not reflect circumstances that exist in Lawrence County, Indiana.

In Lawrence County, we believe health decisions are best made by individuals in consultation with their medical professionals. Common sense should be exercised. The county has worked diligently to ensure that vaccines and testing are available to those who want them. Masks may be worn by anyone who wants to wear one, and anyone who chooses to forego masks and vaccinations has a right to do so.

We have lived through the pandemic for more than 18 months and citizens have been provided with information regarding how to protect themselves from COVID-19 and are fully capable of making their own decisions.

Finally, we fully support and respect the right of citizens to make decisions regarding their own families. We will continue to do everything within our power to see that necessary services for testing and vaccinations are made available to everyone in the county, and we look forward to the time when we are able to move past the COVID-19 pandemic.

Purdue Football fans to experience home games without added restrictions
The Purdue Boilermakers return to the Gridiron the coming weekend, and do so with a pre-covid fan experience! When football fans return to home games for the first time at Ross-Ade Stadium since 2019, they can do so without showing proof of a negative virus test result or the requirement of wearing a face covering. Purdue officials say they’re not worried about games this fall becoming ‘super spreader’ events. “The protocols that we have in place at Purdue. They’re founded in science. They just make sense,” says Purdue CRO Tom Moreland. He cited more than 95% of their student athletes, coaches, and staff are vac cin ated against the virus. Fans can enjoy a better experience at games this year, a brand-new 150 wide video board has been added to the south end zone, and internet connectivity inside the stadium has been upgraded.
