IU Professor to manage $4 Million award for cancer research
Paul Macklin, an associate professor at the IU Luddy School of Informatics, Computing and Engineering in Bloomington will co-lead a $4 million award from the National Institutes of Health’s National Cancer Institute The funds will go to expand access to computational biology tools for conducting simulations in search of new cancer therapies. Macklin and collaborators will work to integrate two powerful research tools into a single cloud-based platform open to cancer researchers around the country and the world.

Deer season open in Indiana
Deer Season has kicked off in Indiana for Reduction Zones which give hunters opportunities to harvest deer in defined urban areas and along portions of Indiana highways, in addition to statewide bag limits. Please note, Hunters must secure permission from landowners and/or land management authorities prior to hunting a property located within a deer reduction zone. To learn about Indiana’s Deer Reduction Zones, visit IN DOT Gov SLASH DNR

Columbus man charged in alleged assault against ex-wife
59-year-old Brent Clayburn of Columbus man faces multiple charges, including attempted murder. Clayburn is accused of attacking and firing a gun at his ex-wife on September 15th at around 1030pm. A neighbor was able to help the woman escape before a swat team arrived to help negotiate Clayburn’s surrender. Police found several weapons, magazines, and a backpack containing several boxes of ammunition inside the home, all of which belonged to Clayburn.

Krauskopf to return as Fever President
Kelly Krauskopf wis returning as President of the Indiana Fever at the conclusion of this season to replace the outgoing Allison Barber, who announced that she will step down after 6 years at the helm. Krauskopf led the franchise from 2000-18 before she left to become the Pacers’ assistant general  manager. The Fever won the WNBA championship in 2012 and reached the finals in 2009 and 2015 under her leadership.

Sample Indiana-Grown Apples at Farmers’ Market Sept. 28
The Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market hosts a free tasting of more than a dozen varieties of locally grown and heirloom varieties of apples on Sept. 28 from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. on the Fernandez Plaza at the Saturday Market, located at Bloomington’s City Hall. The Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market is open every Saturday in September from 8am-1pm and every Saturday in October from 9am until 1pm
