2025 Indiana University Football Commit Byron Baldwin Decommits from the Program Indiana football has lost a commitment its highest-ranked recruit in the class of 2025. Byron Baldwin committed to Indiana in April, but he decommitted on Wednesday, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3. Baldwin is a 6-foot-1, 190-pound safety from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Md. He’s a four-star recruit ranked No. 224 in the nation, No. 19 among safeties and No. 5 in Maryland, according to the 247Sports Composite. According to Fawcett’s report, Colorado, Missouri UCLA and Penn State stand out as contenders for Baldwin following his decommitment, but Indiana will remain in contention. Baldwin is predicted to land at Colorado, according to a Crystal Ball Prediction from Adam Munsterteiger. In 10 games as a junior at Calvert Hall College High School in Towson, Md. last season, Baldwin recorded 79 total tackles, three pass breakups, two interceptions and a tackle for loss, according to MaxPreps.

Indiana University Men’s Soccer knocks off #8 Wisconsin Indiana men’s soccer (3-3-4, 2-1-1 B1G) opened October with a 3-2 victory at No. 8-ranked Wisconsin (6-2-1, 1-2-1 B1G) Tuesday night in Madison, Wisconsin, led by a brace from sophomore forward Collins Oduro. IU took the lead three times in the match, bookended by Oduro scores – his first two of the year. Senior forward Tommy Mihalic tallied his sixth goal in 10 matches to make it 2-1, and Oduro broke a 2-2 tie in the 64th minute to win the match. Earning three points in the Big Ten Conference standings, Indiana now sits fourth in the league with seven points and six matches to play.

In the 12th Minute Oduro opened the scoring in a flash as senior forward Samuel Sarver struck a pass from the right wing to Oduro at the top of the box. Oduro swung and curled his first-time shot into the back of the net. In the 21st Minute a Wisconsin cross bounced between heads in the box and eventually fell to the foot of Badger junior forward Thomas Raimbault, who struck a volley into goal. In the 49th Indiana retook the lead right out of halftime as Mihalic found space to shoot at the top of the box after passed from senior defender Jansen Miller and Oduro. Mihalic’s attempt powered through the fingertips of the Wisconsin keeper, and IU grabbed the 2-1 advantage. In the 62nd Minute Wisconsin’s second leaked into goal after IU senior goalkeeper JT Harms couldn’t catch a long throw-in. Two minutes later, Indiana found its winner. Oduro jumped on an errant pass in midfield, dribbled to the edge of the 18-yard box, cut inside and finished into the side netting. In its last four seasons, Indiana is 17-3-6 in the month of October. IU extended its undefeated streak against Wisconsin to 15 matches since 2014, owning a 9-0-6 record in that span. The Hoosiers improved their all-time series record to 43-5-10. Oduro earned his first-career brace. The sophomore has scored seven goals in his career. Mihalic has scored half of Indiana’s 12 goals this season. The senior is one goal away from eclipsing his career-high for goals, set as a sophomore.
Mihalic has three goals and one assist against Wisconsin in his career. Indiana returns home for three consecutive matches at Bill Armstrong Stadium. The homestand kicks off when IU welcomes Washington Friday at 7pm.

Jasen Oliver named Indiana University Scholar Athlete of the Month for October Sophomore infielder Jasen Oliver has shown a commitment to athletic success, academic excellence and personal growth in his early time at Indiana University. For his efforts, he was named October’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month, as announced by the D. Ames Shuel Academic Center and IU’s academic services staff. The Almont, Mich. Native broke onto the scene for the Hoosiers with a phenomenal freshman baseball season in 2024. Oliver recorded 49 hits, 33 runs and 37 RBIs. His 10 home runs on the campaign extended IU’ three-year streak of having a freshman hit 10+ home runs. He was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team. While balancing his commitments on the field, Oliver is working on his undergraduate degree in Sports Marketing and Management. He maintained a 3.7 GPA while appearing in 48 contests with 44 starts for the Hoosiers. He spent his summer playing baseball in the Northwoods League and is now back on campus for his sophomore season.

Two Former Indiana University Baseball Players ready for the MLB Postseason A pair of former Hoosiers will take center stage in October as the 2024 MLB Postseason gets underway. Veteran designated hitter Kyle Schwarber (2012-14) will play in his fifth-consecutive playoff series while left-handed reliever Tim Herrin (2016-18) makes his postseason debut. Over the past five seasons, Schwarber has appeared in the playoffs with the Cubs (2020), the Red Sox (2021) and the Phillies (2022-24). He is the owner of 20 career postseason home runs and has one World Series ring to his name, winning the Fall Classic with Chicago in 2016. He hit three home runs in the 2022 World Series, but Philadelphia fell to Houston in six games. With one of the top two records in the National League, the Phillies will have a bye directly into the NLDS. Schwarber and company will begin their postseason journey against the winner of a best-of-three Wild Card series.

In the American League, Herrin is set to make his postseason debut with the Guardians. Cleveland wrapped up the AL Central title and one of the best two records in the league, securing a bye into the division series. The Guardians will take on the winner of a Wild Card series between the Astros and Tigers. The Terre Haute, Ind. native is enjoying a phenomenal breakout campaign. The southpaw made a case to be an All-Star, pitching to a 1.92 earned run average across 75 appearances and 65.2 innings pitched this year. He owns a strikeout tally of 68 this season and has allowed just 17 runs (14 earned) in a dominant Cleveland bullpen. The MLB Postseason got underway on Tuesday the four Wild Card series will run through today before the divisional rounds get going on Saturday. There has been an IU alum appear in each of the last two Fall Classics with Schwarber in 2022 (Phillies) and left-handed pitcher Andrew Saalfrank in 2023 (Diamondbacks).

Indiana University Wrestling to host Wrestle Offs at Wilkinson Hall Indiana Wrestling will host its annual wrestle-offs on Friday, Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in Wilkinson Hall. The preseason event, like all home duals at Wilkinson Hall, is free for all fans.  The event will feature matches to determine the starting spot at each weight class ahead of the season’s start. The matches for the wrestle-offs are still to be determined and will be released at a later time.

Indiana Pacers announce 2024 Training Camp Roster The Indiana Pacers opened their 2024-25 Training Camp on Tuesday,at the Ascension St. Vincent Center. Practices will be conducted throughout the week, and Training Camp will conclude with Pacers FanJam presented by Gainbridge on Sunday, Oct. 6 at noon. The Pacers will begin their 2024 preseason schedule Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Atlanta. Indiana’s first home preseason game is scheduled for Oct. 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Gainbridge Fieldhouse against the Memphis Grizzlies.
