Edgewood-South Putnam Football Game Canceled This Friday

The Edgewood-South Putnam game scheduled for this Friday night at South Putnam has been canceled due to COVID-19 concerns within the Edgewood Program. Edgewood originally canceled its rivalry game last Friday with Owen Valley but was rescheduled hours later as Owen Valley beat Edgewood 54-7. Edgewood had 14 players that were quarantined for the Owen Valley game and are slated to return Monday before the September 24th game at Indian Creek. Edgewood had 5 more players go out due to contract tracing leaving close to 20 unavailable for this Friday’s game and not enough players left to field a team. South Putnam will travel to Eastern Hancock as replacement game. Last year teams scrambled each and every week to find teams to play after COVID knocked teams out for a week or two and it is same case this season.   

Indiana Women’s Golf Places 14th at Wolverine Invitational

Indiana Women’s Golf placed 14th at the Wolverine Invitational Tuesday in Ann Arbor Michigan. The Hoosiers finished 14th out of 16 teams with a team score of 915 which was 63 over par. Aine Donegan a Freshman from Ireland was the Top Hoosier shooting 217 overall which was 4 over par and tied for 11th overall. Michigan won its own tournament with an 851 under par. Virginia was a distant second with 863 11 over par. Liyana Dursic from Iowa State and Mikakela Schulz from Michigan tied for the individual championship with a 3 under par 210 total score. The Hoosiers will compete in the Badger Invitational Sunday-Tuesday in Madison Wisconsin.

Indiana Women’s Soccer Players Paige Webber and Jamie Gerstenberg Honored by Big Ten 

Indiana Women’s Soccer Players Paige Webber and Jamie Gerstenberg gained weekly honors by the Big Ten Conference this week.  Webber was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the week as she came off the bench to score 3 goals in 42 minutes in a 4-0 win over Murray State. Webber became the eighth player in program history to record a hat trick and the first since 2013. Webber added an assist on the Hoosiers first goal in a 3-0 win at Kansas State. Gerstenberg was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after she recorded her third straight shutout and sixth of the season in goal for the Hoosiers. Gerstenberg made 7 saves over these past two games for the Hoosiers and she becomes the second Big Ten Freshman of the week since Jordan Levy earned the award on September 7th. The Hoosiers have scored 17 goals in there last three matches and have 17-2 scoring advantage over there opponents on the season.

Indiana Men’s Soccer’s Daniel Munie Named Big Ten Defensive Player of The Week

Indiana Men’s Soccer Player Daniel Munie has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. The Redshirt Junior from Maryland Heights Missouri was a key piece in slowing down a potent Akron Zips offensive attack in a 1-1 draw at Friday in Akron in battle of ranked teams. The Hoosiers faced a season high 16 shots but only three were credited as shots on goal. In the 66th Minute Munie delivered the game first goal. He found the back of the net off a corner kick from Junior Victor Bezerra. Munie flicked a header into the back of the net off the take to score his first goal of the 2021 season. Munie has scored 3 goals at Indiana with the other two which were match winners coming in the 2020-21 season. Munie is second Indiana player to win a weekly award with Freshman Tommy Mihalic winning the Offensive Player Of The Week Award August 31st.
