Indiana University Women’s Basketball Hosts #8 Ohio State to kick off the home stretch  The Indiana Hoosiers face the first of three ranked opponents when the host the #8 Ohio State Buckeyes tonight at 7 PM inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall with the game streaming on Peacock. The Hoosiers are 10-4 at home and this will be the 4th time this season a ranked opponent has come into Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall as the Hoosiers are 1-2 against ranked opponents in Bloomington this season.  Indiana is 16-9 on the season and 8-6 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers sit in 9th place in the Conference Standings, and they are a bubble team for the NCAA Tournament. Indiana could get off that bubble as they face three ranked opponents in the final four games of the regular season. The Hoosiers face #22 Michigan State on Sunday in East Lansing before hosting #21 Maryland in the final regular season home game next Thursday before traveling to Purdue on March 2.

The Hoosiers beat Purdue 78-56 last Saturday afternoon at home as the Hoosiers have won 12 in a row against the Boilermakers and hold on to the Barn Burner Trophy. Indiana jumped out to a 30-10 lead after the first quarter and led 48-22 at half and never looked back. The Hoosiers shot 50 percent from the field and three-point range and 87 percent from the free throw line.  Yarden Garzon is averaging 13.9 points which leads the team along with 5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Chloe Moore-McNeil is averaging 9.8 points along with a team leading 4.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game.  Indiana is averaging 70 points and committing 14.2 turnovers per game. The Hoosiers are shooting 45 percent from the field, 36 percent from three-point range and 77 percent from the free throw line. When Indiana gets stops on defense it leads to offense and the Hoosiers need that tonight against a tough Buckeye squad.

Ohio State is 22-3 overall and 11-3 in the Big Ten and coming off an 86-78 overtime win at home against the Iowa Hawkeyes Monday Afternoon in a Presidents Day matinee. The Buckeyes have played two overtime games in a row after Minnesota pushed the Buckeyes to the limit 87-84 last Thursday Night in Columbus. Cotie McMahon leads the Buckeyes averaging 17 points per game. #14 Michigan State outlasts #13 Purdue Men’s Basketball in East Lansing Jase Richardson had 12 points and Frankie Fidler scored 11, leading No. 14 Michigan State to a 75-66 win over No. 13 Purdue on Tuesday night. The Spartans (21-5, 12-3 Big Ten) have won three of four to pull within a half-game of conference-leading and 12th-ranked Michigan, heading into the rivals’ matchup on Friday night at Crisler Center. Trey Kaufmann-Renn scored 24 and Braden Smith added 17 for the defending Big Ten-champion Boilermakers (19-8, 11-5), who have lost three straight for the first time in five years. Michigan State’s Coen Carr and Jaden Akins each scored 10 points. The Boilermakers led by seven midway through the first half and the Spartans went on a surge to take a 33-31 lead at halftime. Michigan State stayed in control in the second half and sealed the win by finishing 4 for 4 from the field.

Without 7-foot-4 Zach Edey, now a rookie with the Memphis Grizzlies, the Boilermakers can’t protect the rim, and the Spartans took advantage with lobs and dunks.  No one picked coach Tom Izzo’s team to win the Big Ten title before the season started, but the balanced and streaky squad has a shot with two games left against Michigan and a home game against No. 11 Wisconsin. Coen Carr defied gravity with a dunk off a high lob to tie the score late in the first half during a 16-5 run that gave the Spartans control. Michigan State scored 19 points off Purdue’s 12 turnovers. With first place in the Big Ten at stake, Michigan State will play at Michigan on Friday night. In another rivalry game, Purdue will play at Indiana on Sunday.
