Indiana University Women’s Basketball takes down #8 Ohio State The Indiana Hoosiers made a statement Thursday Night with a 71-61 win over the #8 Ohio State Buckeyes in Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Indiana is 17-9 overall and 9-6 in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers face #22 Michigan State on the road Sunday afternoon with the second ranked opponent in a row. This is the 4th win this season over a ranked opponent and the first win this season over a top ten team. “We knew it was going to take something extra special. I’m just happy for our kids. We knew they had it in them” Indiana Head Coach Teri Moren said after the game. Indiana is 17-21 all-time against Ohio State in Bloomington and snaps a two-game losing streak to the Buckeyes. Indiana beat Ohio State 83-59 in Columbus on February 13, 2023, and the Hoosiers won in Bloomington 78-65 on January 26, 2023. Ohio State leads the all-time series 60-25.

The Hoosiers got 16 points apiece from Yarden Garzon, Shay Ciezki and Sydney Parrish. Karoline Striplin added 11 points. Garzon pulled down 11 rebounds and hit her 200th career three pointer. Garzon becomes the fourth Hoosier to hit 200 three pointers in her career and just 7 away from breaking the all-time mark of 206 set by Kris McGrade from 1991-94. Garzon recorded her second double-double this season after scoring 18 points and pulling down 10 rebounds against Columbia in the first game of the Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas on November 23. Indiana finished the game 25-46 for 54% from the field, 9-17 from three-point range for 53% and 12-14 from the free throw line for 85%. The Hoosiers pulled down 34 rebounds, dished out 21 assists, 4 steals, 1 block and committed 21 turnovers.

Ohio State is 22-4 overall and 11-4 in the Big Ten with all four losses coming on the road. Ohio State is in position for a double bye in the Big Ten Tournament but with three games left the Buckeyes are 3 games behind USC and 2 Behind UCLA and have been eliminated from contention for the Big Ten Regular Season Championship. Freshman Jaloni Cambridge led the Buckeyes with 18 points and Cotie McMahon added 14 points. Ohio State finished the game 24-57 from the field for 42%, 6-18 from three-point range for 33% and 7-12 from the free throw line for 58%. The Buckeyes pulled down 20 rebounds, 12 steals, assists and committed 10 turnovers.

The Hoosiers started out fast and were able to handle the Ohio State full court press in the first quarter as there were 5 lead changes as the Hoosiers led 26-17 after the first quarter as Indiana was able to get layups and easy buckets breaking the press. Ohio State came back with 9-0 to start the second quarter to the tie the game 26-26. Chloe Moore-McNeil put the Hoosiers up 29-26 with 7:18 left in the second quarter as the Hoosiers outscored the Buckeyes 11-2 as Ohio State was held scoreless for the final three minutes and eight seconds before the break as the Hoosiers led 40-28 at halftime.

Indiana outscored Ohio State 17-11 in the third quarter as the Hoosiers maintained a double-digit lead throughout the third quarter Indiana led 57-39 going into the final ten minutes. Ohio State got within 8 points 69-61 with 12 seconds left as Shay Ciezki hit two free throws to give the Hoosiers a double digit win over a top 10 team. Ohio State outscored Indiana 22-14 in the fourth quarter as the Hoosiers committed 10 turnovers and Ohio State only had 1 in the fourth quarter. Ohio State Head Coach Kevin McGuff was called for a technical foul with 6:08 left in the game as he was frustrated with a call that he felt was missed by the officials.

The Hoosiers have three regular season games left with Michigan State and Purdue on the road and Maryland at home and with this win it’s a big boost for the Hoosiers NCAA Tournament Resume and there is urgency to finish the season strong and get ready for the Big Ten Tournament and NCAA Tournament. “As we go down the stretch, everything is about urgency.” Teri Moren said she noticed the team was showing this urgency during shoot around earlier today.

Indiana Basketball will not wear the Addias “Fear of God Uniforms” this season The Indiana men’s and women’s basketball programs will no longer wear the alternate uniforms from Fear of God and adidas. Indiana announced Wednesday that the women’s team would wear the uniforms for last night’s game against Ohio State, and the men’s team would wear them the following Wednesday against Penn State. But that is no longer the case. “Indiana’s men’s and women’s basketball programs will not be wearing the Fear of God uniform design in any upcoming games. IU will continue to proudly wear Adidas apparel, including our traditional basketball uniforms,” a statement from the Indiana athletic department read. The Indiana athletic department declined to comment on why the uniforms will not be worn. Posts from both programs on X announcing the uniforms have been deleted. The Indiana men’s and women’s basketball programs wore dark gray Fear of God uniforms during the 2023-24 season.

Indiana and Marquette Men’s Basketball Announce Non-Conference Clash in Chicago The Gazelle Group announced a non-conference tilt between the Indiana Hoosiers and the Marquette Golden Eagles as part of the opening week of the 2025-26 men’s college basketball season. Indiana, one of the NCAA’s all-time winningest programs, will play in a non-conference game in the Chicago area for the first time since 2007 when it takes on Big East contender Marquette on Nov. 9, 2025, at the United Center. The game will be the fourth between the Hoosiers and Golden Eagles on a neutral floor and 11th overall meeting. IU holds an 8-2 advantage in a series that dates back to 1922, including a 96-73 triumph the last time the two sides met as part of the Gavitt Games in Bloomington in 2018. Indiana has defeated Marquette in two of the previous three neutral site contests, including a pair of NCAA Tournament tilts. The Hoosiers topped the Golden Eagles (75-69) in Nashville enroute to the 1973 Final Four and against (65-56) in Baton Rouge as part of the 1976 undefeated national championship run. The teams also met in the 2001 Great Alaska Shootout where Marquette (50-49) captured the event title under the guidance of future Indiana head coach Tom Crean.

Three Bloomington South Boys Wrestlers to Compete in the IHSAA State Finals at Gainbridge Fieldhouse  224 Wrestlers from 94 Schools across the State of Indiana will gather starting today at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis for the 87th Annual IHSAA Boys Wrestling State Finals. 14 Different Weight Classes with 16 Wrestlers competing in each class will battle it out on the mat to see who will be crowned State Champions this weekend.  The action will begin this afternoon at 3 PM as the first-round matches start for the 106 through 144-pound weight classes then at 6 PM the 150 though 285-pound weight classes will have their first-round matches. The Winners will advance to the Quarterfinals on Saturday Morning at 9 AM followed by the Semifinals. The Consolation Finals will begin at 4:30 PM and at the 7:30 the State Championship matches will start. 

Bloomington South has three wrestlers competing in the State Finals.  At 120 Pounds Senior Cam Meier brings a 40-5 record into first round match with Crown Point Sophomore Gavin Lewis who is 29-3 on the season. At 150 Pounds Junior Wyatt Cooksey who is 37-7 on the season will take on Senior Silas Foster from Purdue Polytechnic in Downtown Indianapolis who is 39-4 on the season. At 165 Pounds Senior Evan Roudebush who is 43-1 on the season will take on Sophomore Jaxsin Prater of East Central who is 33-7 on the season.  Bloomington South’s Tristan Ruhlman was the last individual State Champion from Monroe County when he won the 220-pound title in 2021. Delaney Ruhlman was a three-time State Runner Up from 2021-23 the first two years at 138 pounds and 170 pounds his final year for the Panthers.

Bloomington South Girls Basketball takes on Pike in the Southport Semi State Saturday Morning  The Bloomington South Panthers are in the Semi State for the first time since 1987 and they will have to win two games to advance to the Class 4A State Championship Game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse Next Saturday Night in Indianapolis. The Panthers face the Pike Red Devils in the first game at 10 AM Saturday Morning at historic Southport Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. 21-6 Gibson Southern will take on 16-8 Lawrence North in the Second Semifinal at Noon with the winners coming back Saturday Night at 8 PM for the Championship Game. 

Bloomington South won its first regional title since 1987 with. 49-23 win over East Central last Saturday Night at Bedford North Lawrence. The Panthers did not allow East Central to score a field goal in the first half and held the Trojans scoreless in the first quarter.  The Panthers are 23-2 on the season and their only two losses came against schools from Evansville. The Panthers lost on November 30 to Evansville North 54-52 in overtime and at Evansville Central 63-49 on January 18. The Panthers have won Six Games in a row since the Evansville Central Loss.  Head Coach Larry Winters is in 26th year as Head Coach and has a record of 366-216. Winters won his first regional championship and has won 5 Sectional Championships as the Panthers Head Coach in 2002, 2009 2010 2019 and 2025.  Bloomington South is averaging 59.2 points on offense and giving up 34.3 points on defense. Bloomington South has won 11 Sectional Championships and 2 Regional Championships in 1982 and 1987 and look to make history with their first ever Semi State Championship in program history. 

Pike is 19-6 on the season as the Red Devils come into Saturday’s matchup on a 4-game winning streak as they beat Franklin Central 61-50 for the Regional Title Last Saturday at Decatur Central on the Southwest Side of Indianapolis.  The Red Devils are averaging 64.8 points on offense and give up 52.2 points on defense. Keith Hollins is in his 3rd as Head Coach with a 36-39 record and won Back-to-Back Sectional Championships along with the school’s first regional title since 2017 which is the only other regional title in program history. Pike has won 10 Sectional Championships, 2 Regional Championships, and a Semi State Championship in 2017 before they lost in the 2017 Class 4A State Championship Game to Homestead 64-51.  This is the first meeting between Pike and Bloomington South since November 6, 2021, when the Red Devils beat the Panthers 61-29 at Bloomington South. The teams meet every year between 2017-2021 with teams splitting 3 wins a piece in six matchups. The teams meet from 2001-2014 with Bloomington South leading that part of the series 8-6 as the Panthers hold a 11-9 advantage over Pike dating back to the 2000-01 season. 

Indy Eleven Women’s Soccer announces 2025 W League Season Schedule   The defending USL W League Valley Division Champion Indy Eleven women’s team announced its 2025 schedule, featuring five matches at the Grand Park Events Center in Westfield. The Girls in Blue open vs. Lexington SC on Fri. May 16 in Brandon Kim’s debut as head coach. During his three-year tenure as assistant, Kim helped Indy Eleven become one of only three USL W League teams to make the playoffs all three years of the league’s history. Indy Eleven won its third straight division title in 2024, topping the Valley Division for the second consecutive season following a Great Lakes Division crown in 2022. Last year, Indy posted a 7-1-2 record with five shutouts and a goal differential of +25, reaching the Central Conference finals. The W League’s Valley Division added expansion side Dayton Dutch Lions FC for 2025, replacing St. Charles FC. Indy is 18-2-4 all-time against its Valley opponents.
