Out of state runaway found by Indiana Troopers during traffic stop
On Wednesday afternoon, Indiana State Police Bloomington District A.C.E.S. (All Crimes Enforcement Section) Sergeant, Greg Day, conducted a traffic stop along SR 37, just north of Mitchell.  During the course of the traffic stop, the driver was identified as 18 year-old Chase Conn, of Paoli. It was discovered that Conn had never obtained a driver’s license and had a driving status of suspended with a prior conviction. A 17 year-old female passenger in the vehicle turned out to be a missing runaway from Carmi, Illinois, who had been reported as missing since June of 2021. Conn was issued a summons for Operator Never Licensed and Driving While Suspended with a Prior Conviction.  The female was taken into custody and eventually released to her legal guardians from Illinois. Sgt. Day was assisted by Troopers Sam Gillespie and Cody Brown, along with Lawrence County Juvenile Probation.

Public input sought for Bloomington Neighborhood Greenways in Green Acres and Broadview
The City of Bloomington Planning and Transportation Department is hosting public input meetings for the East 7th Street Greenway and the Graham/Broadview Neighborhood Greenway projects. Neighborhood Greenways are low-speed, low-volume, shared-space streets that create high-comfort walking and bicycling connections. At the following meetings, staff from the City’s departments of Planning and Transportation and Engineering will share the preliminary design of each greenway and collect input from residents and users:

  • East 7th Street Greenway (N. Union Street > SR 45/46 Underpass): Friday, October 1 from 3-5 p.m. at the intersection of  E. 8th Street and N. Overhill Drive.  A rain date of October 21  is proposed for the outdoor event.  The E. 7th Street Greenway will extend east-west connectivity to the Indiana University campus and downtown via the 7-Line.  More information is available at the project website
  • Broadview/Graham Neighborhood Greenway (S. Rockport Road > S. Rogers Street): Tuesday, October 5 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Broadview Park Pavilion (704 W. Graham Drive).  The Broadview/Graham Neighborhood Greenway will create a valuable bike/ped connection from the B-Line and Switchyard Park to the city’s southwest side.  More information is available at the project website.

Conservation Officers encourage Indiana hunters to donate harvested deer to help feed hungry Hoosiers
The Sportsmen’s Benevolence Fund administered by the DNR Division of Law Enforcement provides grants to Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry, the Dubois County Sportsmen Club, and Hunters and Farmers Feeding the Hungry to pay for processing fees when hunters donate legally harvested deer.

Participating in the program is simple:

  1. Enjoy a deer hunting experience.
  2. Harvest a deer.
  3. Drop off the field-dressed deer at a local participating processor.
  4. Processing fees are paid for by the Sportsmen’s Benevolence Fund.
  5. The processor will create healthy venison burger to distribute to food banks.

The participating organizations notify food banks throughout Indiana when venison is ready to be collected from certified Sportsmen’s Benevolence Fund butchers. The food banks distribute venison to soup kitchens and food pantries. As a result of the 2020 deer hunting seasons, the Sportsmen’s Benevolence Fund provided funding to process more than 360 harvested deer that resulted in more than 20,650 pounds of venison being donated.
