The Edgewood Mustangs remain on the road to take on the South Putnam Eagles who are Ranked 5th in Class 2A while the Bloomington North Cougars and the #2 Ranked Bloomington South Panthers are home this week as Bloomington North faces Martinsville and Bloomington South hosts Terre Haute North tonight in Week 3 of High School Football in the Great State of Indiana. The Bloomington North game will kick off 7, Bloomington South will start at 7:30 PM and Edgewood will start at 8 PM.
Edgewood is 1-1 after being shutout at Beech Grove 36-0 last Friday. The Mustangs beat Springs Valley in week 1 29-8 and are averaging 14.5 points on offense and giving up 22 points on defense. Head Coach Scott Fischer is 10-21 in his fourth year at Edgewood as the Mustangs beat the Eagles 31-30 in overtime at the Mustang Corral on September 5, 2025. Edgewood leads the series 6-5 in the last 40 years.
South Putnam is 2-0 and has outscored its opponents 106-14 averaging 58 points on offense and giving up 7 points on defense. South Putnam dominated North Putnam 56-14 in week 1 at home dominated Greencastle on the road 60-0. Head Coach Chuck Sorrell is 67-20 in his 8th year at South Putnam and 71-46 overall in 11 seasons. South Putnam finished 13-2 a year ago and won the Class 1A State Championship over Pioneer 55-29 and moved up to Class 2A this year due to the IHSAA Tournament Success Factor.
Bloomington North is 1-1 after a 41-40 comeback win over Bedford North Lawrence last week in Bedford. The Cougars were down 34-14 with 6:27 left in the third quarter and tied the game 34-34 with 8:38 left in the fourth quarter. Bedford North Lawrence scored with 8:19 left to lead 40-34. The Cougars scored with 2:56 left and got the extra point to lead 41-40 with 2:56 left to give Head Coach Andy Harding his first win as the head coach at his alma mater. Harding returned to his hometown after spending over a decade in North Carolina coaching.
Martinsville is 0-2 after losing at home to Bloomington South 48-14 last week and 33-27 at Bedford North Lawrence in week one. The Artesians average 20.5 points on offense and give up 40.5 points on defense. Head Coach Brian Duggar is 45-31 in his 7th season at the school. Martinsville and Bloomington North have not played since Martinsville beat Bloomington North 31-9 on October 26, 2018, in the Sectional. Bloomington North joined the Mid-State Conference this season and Martinsville were already a member and in the last 40 years Martinsville leads the series 17-6.
Bloomington South looks to stay unbeaten facing winless Terre Haute North. The Panthers won their first games on the road against Bloomington North and Martinsville by a combined score of 92-20 averaging 46 points on offense and 10 points on defense. Head Coach Gabe Johnson is 53-18 in his 7th season in charge of the Panthers and 67-28 in 9 years overall. The Panthers are ranked number 2 this week in Class 5A and thought they had a chance to move up to number 1 this week after New Palestine lost to East Central last week, but the Polls kept the Dragons at Number 1 this week.
Terre Haute North lost their first two games at home to Northview and Mooresville by a combined score of 88-12. Head Coach Aaron Edwards is looking for his first career win after the Patriots were 0-10 a season ago and 0-2 to start the 2026 season. Terre Haute North is averaging 6 points a game on offense and giving up 44 points a game on defense. The Panthers beat the Patriots 49-13 at Terre Haute North on September 5, 2025, and lead the series 19-4 in the last 40 years.
